Hi guys im using AOL with a Netgear DG834G router, its been fine for about 2 years, currently on 2mb.

I normally get a solid 220kbps download speed, the day before AOL's new terms and conditions came into place my speed dropped to 55kbps download. Then the next night the low speed, and then the night after 200kbps and since then its on and off between these two speeds.

Its really winding me up, all i download now really is XBox360 demos, maybe 2 or 3 a week.

Ive updated my router firmware but no fix. Is this likely to be a line problem or my ISP being rubbish?

Also does anyone know if i can cancel AOL and move on to another ISP? Was i supposed to do it before the clowns took over?

Cheers guys

I'm not with AOL(CPW) so I don't know for sure, but with their new terms and conditions was a new FUP(fair usage policy) - it might be that that's limiting your speed.

One thing for sure is that I wouldn't stay with them with their new T&C's, they could supply line speed 24x7 and I'd still move as they are an invasion of privacy.

My advice would be to ask for a Mac code and move to another provider, and try and use the change in the T&C's to make the move. Say that you don't agree with the new T&C's and they'll have to give you the option of a MAC.

Yes.

I'm still with them until BT get their act together and get their systems working properly.

But, unlike you my connection speed has been pretty much 180 to 240 kb/s.

Try emailing [email protected] and ask for a mac code, not sure how it'll go down now though.

You won't have to pay anything as your well out of your 12 month contract as being over 2yrs, so either phone or e-mail for a MAC code as said above. :)

I don't wish to be rude but have you actually taken the time to read the new T&C's ? IF you use the software you end up with targeted advertising within the AOL suite with data passed on to other parties in the AOL group. You may also want to read the privacy policy while you're at it.

I can't comment on after 5:30 but all the work paid user accounts I deal with are still as fast as they were in January and we have zero AOL software usage.
