• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

Broke my 980TI :( Any tips?

Don't bother trying to reason with him Aya!

Anyway, it's been said already, if you don't feel like returning and chancing it - just contact them, tell them what you did and offer to pay to repair it - they might not even charge you and just swap it out, you never know.

Completely irrelevant. Everybody who abuses the RMA process pushes costs up for everyone else.

Ultimately, it's not "these companies" that foot the bill - it's us.

:D

You really think that? You really think that the price of cards today are because it's people doing RMA's, especially dodgy ones.

Sorry FoxEye but that is funny

I'd return it. Unless you bent it like a banana its unlikely to crack. The boards are quite strong. Strip down and re-fit the stock cooler. Could be shorting etc.

If you had to take any warranty stickers off its likely to be refused. Otherwise send away for repair or sell as broken. If no stickers, just send it back for RMA.

Personally Id RMA it. I'm assuming you was carefull and wasn't swinging it around in a sock smashing it against a wall.

People delid and kill their cpus but glue and pop the IHS back on and RMA without a problem. No different from them.

Principle is the same though - if people start abusing the warranty, etc. in the end it will just result in more restrictions, higher costs to the consumer, etc.

If its getting as far as showing an uncorrupted splash screen then tyler could be right that something is being shorted.

Id try the oven. They won't know you've baked out the card since all that will happen is the solder will reflow slightly. I have been successfull twice doing it in the past. RMA if it doesn't work.

RMA it.

Too many do-gooders in this thread - you can bet they'd RMA it if they were in your shoes.

Nobody is actually telling the OP not to RMA it. He's decided that for himself.

None of us are going to denounce him if he does.

But the idea that none of us would take responsibility for our own actions, like the OP has indicated he will, is frankly insulting.

Just because you would be happy to abuse the warranty doesn't mean everybody would.

If its reaching the splash screen its working. If it was completely dead it wouldn't even get that far. Could likely be it is shorting. If it was working with the stock cooler. Slap that back on and ensure all screws, thermal pads, paste etc is correctly fitted.

Does it stay in the bios? Doesn't cut out or power off seconds later?. Double check all bios settings to ensure its booting from the Ti and not igpu if the CPU has one.

Inspect the entire board in the process for damage. They are stronger than you would expect and can bend a lot without cracking. If you was careful chances are its not cracked.

+1. Many of us like to live our lives as honestly as possible. OP, I commend you for doing the right thing.

I'd feel dirty trying to pass it off for RMA. Integrity has to be worth more than £550, right? Talking to Zotac about a potential repair has to be worth a go.

I appreciate your honesty. For around £100 (hopefully) you can have your card back in working order plus have your integrity still intact.

It would be nice for OCUK to possibly ask Zotac what can be done and for what price for promoting good values.

All the best!.

I've started the process of contacting zotac directly, i'll update on what they say for anyone curious!

As for the card, there is no on-board GPU (it's an x79, i7-3820 setup). I can't get as far as the BIOS, just the splash screen. It displays perfectly fine, but accepts no input. After about 20-30 seconds it disappears, and goes black screen with a blinking underscore.

It does this with or without the 8pin+6pin i don't know if that hints at a specific problem part of the card, but at least some of it is intact so hopefully it can be salvaged.

I'd RMA in the blink of an eye. Wouldn't even mention a cooler swap. Can't play video games on integrity.

Same, I've sent worse back. £550 is going to be a much more noticeable difference to someone than it is a multi-million pound company. Especially when it probably cost a fraction of that to make in the first place.

I wish I could leave this planet. Actually, no. I wish other people could be ejected from this planet :p

The gif was appropriate. If nobody understands the value of integrity, you end up like some African country.

A certain amount of integrity is actually necessary for the human race to achieve things. Corruption does not breed successful societies.

But I know full well I'm just making myself unpopular by saying it. The sheer number of people who can only think about themselves put them firmly in the majority these days.

Anyway, good luck OP. Thanks for bucking the trend. I'm out of this thread.

Good on you for being aware of that and saying your piece anyway. Not everyone enjoys their conscience chiding them, and you were appealing to conscience, which some prefer to remain asleep. Hence the attacks.

To a person who wants their conscience present and to live at peace with themselves, it's irrelevant how a company may or may not behave. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Good on the OP too, best of luck getting it sorted.

It's a GPU not something that actually matters. For all you know he didn't break anything (no physical damage). Don't know why the OP hasn't posted anything yet, but I sincerely don't believe he broke anything as it is booting (turn off fast-boot to see if it responds).
