My secondary HDD keeps clicking and disapears from "my computer", if i restart the pc it shows back up again but as soon as i try to backup the files it starts clicking and then i cant access anything saying it doesnt exist and then the HDD dissapears.

Is it broken? anyway for me to backup the files? as this is my secondary drive i used it as my back up for everything..

The drive is dying :(

Put it in a plastic food bag, seal it to stop moisture getting in and then put it in the freezer for a couple of hours. The bags with the re-sealable tops are best.

Then take it out of the freezer and put in your machine, backup as much as possible until it disappears again.

Rinse and repeat.

It sounds like the platters in the drive are overheating and expanding which moves them out of position. Putting the drive in the freezer should shrink them back.

Something else to try is have some fans ready. As soon as the drive is out the freezer, turn on all the fans and point them at the harddrive. That trick saved my bacon once.
