By some ***** scum. They've bent the door out at the top, nicked the CD player (which was broken), bank statements etc. The insurance excess is too high to cover the damage so I'm left trying to work out how to get this fixed

Yeah, we stupidly got into the habit of leaving it in there as it wasn't worth much, all the wires were ripped out and the inside of the car is a right state, it's pouring with rain and the inside of the car is getting soaked where the gap is but I've been told to wait for someone from forensics to ring me before touching anything.
Think the forensics will be useless as it's rained away any finger prints that were on there at least thats what they told me when they did mine. It's probably just procedure and unlikely they will find anything. Might be a good time to invest in an alarm?? Or at least some stickers and a flashy led.

Well I bought a cheapy car alarm from Halfrauds ages ago, think it was under £50 mark (Sparkrite or something) which had ultrasonics and door pin detection as well as a shock sensor, stickers and flashy LED. I suggest turning the shock sensor sensitivity off or all the way down as the alarm will go off when it gets too windy & rely on the ultrasonics and door pins as that should cover most situations.
When my car was broken into the alarm was off as the car was waiting to be scrapped
"CSI" have been and gone, they found absolutely nothing, which is odd as our fingerprints will be all over the inside of the car and they never took ours as a comparison.
Prints only stick to certain materials (in a usable state anyway). Usually the material around the consoles in cars ain't made of the stuff that they stick to. That's my understanding anyway after having a forensic guy out at my car.
