Hey there, on Saturday night whilst a bit drunken for my birthday I only went and fell on my right hand and ended up in A&E where I got a Xray and iv got three broken metacarpal bones in my hand, sheer snapped in half not just fractured, they cant operate until Thursday because of the swelling, but iv got a temporary cast on at the moment till Thursday when I get a full time cast.

Has anyone broken this bone before and how long did it take yours to heal etc?

Its a right pain in the backside as its my right hand and im right handed so I can barely do anything at all, etleast my index finger I can bend so I can type and click my mouse though so I have something to do whilst it heals I guess.

One things for sure it will be a while until I drink again!

I've never done 3 at the same time :(.

I broke one dirt jumping (pinned hand between tree and bike) iirc it was about 10 weeks before it stopped aching. Mine didn't require surgery though. The other was a poor excuse for a punch in taekwondo that took ages before I could hit properly again.

Ah dear, so Im guessing mine will take a lot longer than 10 weeks then, doesn't help that I race motocross bikes so I wont be riding again for a while, wanted to get training this winter for next years season starting in feb because I didn't race much this year due to just recovering from a bust collar bone that needed surgery in jan this year. goes from bad to worse!

Come on son, you punched something/someone didn't you

Let's put aside all that "fell on my hand" stuff ;)

nope, fell and landed on a curb leaving a club with me missus lol, she almost went over on her heels when it got stuck between a gap in the flags and I caught her and went over my self unfortunately. It didn't hurt at all tho but after half hour It had gone blue and three times the size

Collar bone is so much worse in my opinion!

Never know having surgery may expedite the healing process.

Well the misses clearly owes you a debt of gratitude, paid in multiple instalments ;).

Then sportsmen, then the guy who walked down that dangerous street and got stabbed, then we go for flu, common cold. Ah heck let's make everyone have health insurance :p.

They should start charging drunks in A&E for wasting resources.

Was a honest fall that did it though I just happened to be tipsy due to it being my birthday nothing else. Its not like I go out and get bladed every weekend and end up there. I go out once every 6 months if that for a pint or two, haven't been to town in years until this weekend.

Also, there was nobody in A&E at all, not one person I went straight in no waiting about was in and out in 20 mins, straight for a xray then a cast.

But I agree, people who end up there wasting our tax money on cuts and stomach pumping etc don't deserve the help when they did it to them selves.

OK, I will let it go this time.

:p

I have playing rugby. But only fractured, nothing like what yours sounds like. No idea how long it took to heal as I didn't really pay it much attention - but it is painful, and I get nasty cramps now and again as a result. It's a small bone so you should be relatively okay in a few weeks - but I guess if you've broken more than one that'll take a bit longer, but we all heal at different rates.

Have you considered having the hand removed and replaced with a hook? The applications are limitless, nose picking, using you arm as a rudimentary fishing rod to catch sharks, and the rest!

In addition you could purchase a number of snazzy attachments, you'll never be with out a corkscrew again with the new Swiss Army hand!

you know that actually made me laugh :D first thing that's lightened the mood a little on my injury since it happen.

but on a serious note... no just no :p

Just think of the benefits. People offering you seats, carrying your bags, the life and soul of the party with your tale of woe (fighting a shark should be good for a few drinks). :p

And if you happen to lose your other hand in a freak shark fishing accident, just get another Swiss Army Hand! Then you'd basically be a robot, and robots are cool.

I think it's an awesome idea. :D

But on a serious note OP, I hope it heals all right.

I do things like dirt jumping, and have had a few big crashes in my time. :p But I have never broken anything before.

Not going big enough then :p.

My injuries sustained are broken shin, collar bone, rib, multiple foot bones and two concussions(through helmet).

No wait you're doing better than me :D.

Haha go big or go home! Iv had a lot of racing crashes in the past 11 years, worst being my colar bone that I had plated and screwed togetheer, but iv also had worse crashes than that one where iv been knocked out and concust and not broken anything and a slight fall and this has happened it's quite annoying.
