broken metacarpal

Not going big enough then :p.

My injuries sustained are broken shin, collar bone, rib, multiple foot bones and two concussions(through helmet).

No wait you're doing better than me :D.

Jesus! All those things. :o

Haha, well my bike is fuubared (Slightly bent the pedal, crankshaft is really loose with no way to tighten and is wobbly, damn rocks!)
Currently it only gets used for going to work and back, I like the fact that my bike is bigger than most peoples. :D

My mate crashed into a tree and broke his wrist, I heard it crack and everything. Another funny one was when he thought he split his nutsack haha.

I maybe am a little luckier than them, but still am surprised I haven't broke anything though.

Haha I wasn't counting skin injuries. I have an abrasion scar on my lower regions :(. Chain slipped and I landed on the back wheel thrusted into the saddle as I used the most unfortunate of places as a braking mechanism :D.

Had to walk bow legged for weeks :(.

One of my friends did it properly on a skateboard apparently one was hanging out when he checked and he just fainted(who can blame him lol).

Sorry but that last bit was kinda funny. :p

I cut my leg open on a chain before, it kinda snapped and the sharp bits dug in. (Pretty stupid I know)

When the chain slips it is a real bugger!

You are a master of stuff!! Man stuff!!

I did the same a few years ago, got into a fight with the local idiot (Who's the idiot you may ask?)

Anyhow being the local idiot he's (to my surprise) rather proficient at fighting.

I won (sort of) but he turned his head and I broke one of my metacarpal bones on the back of his thick head.

I was so ashamed I didn't visit the doctor, however I'm really struggling with it now, it's healed badly and needs sorting out really.

I wouldn't go that far :D. I've been chased by a spider (well maybe I just ran away but who knows what really happened :D).

On the plus side no hair grows there anymore lol.

I run away from both spiders and wasps.
When I was in school, there was a wasp in the eating hall and it flew up from under the table and stung me twice right under the eye, lets say I looked funny after it swollen. :p

Funny thing is if one comes in the room and I have my mic on it goes all quiet. :p One time I fell out the door trying to run away. Such a coward :D.

Bloody hell running away from wasps and spiders really? Haha I don't like spiders Infact im scared of them touching me and if I see one I loose my appetite and feel sick for hours but I don't run away from them they can't move fast, I just get the Hoover and suck it up and it's gone. Wasps I don't run from unless it's flying around my face just open the window and catch it in a glass then slide it to the window. I don't like flys more they tend to fly right at ya head them big dirty horrible ones. But daddy long leg crane flys I don't mind at all even tho there flying spiders?! Weird Eh. I couldn't sleep with any of the above in the room till they was out apart from a crane fly I don't mind

... A&E where I got a Xray and iv got three broken metacarpal bones in my hand, sheer snapped in half not just fractured, they cant operate until Thursday because of the swelling, but iv got a temporary cast on at the moment till Thursday when I get a full time cast.

All broken bones are called fractures, regardless of whether its a chip, small break, fully snapped or sticking out a wound.

In general if you are having surgery, it can be a quicker to get back to using it than if it was healing more naturally. Your best bet is to look at what the typical healing times after surgery are for that break, then factor in that you might have complications such as freezing of the joints and atrophy requiring physiotherapy.

If you've never broken a bone before, you will be amazed how your muscle deteriorates from lack of use. When I broke my wrist, after surgery and healing, it basically didn't move at all until I'd had physio for a number of weeks.

Ouch, three MC fractures from a fall! With that amount of force I think you really should count yourself lucky it wasn't a fracture of the wrist or scaphoid bone which can be real pain to sort out. MC fractures will heal up pretty nicely after surgery, probably 6-8 weeks...ease of the booze next time bud!

and be thankful you can enjoy the beautiful NHS - OK, it might not be the prettiest of health services, and it isn't perfect - but at least you won't end up with a 5 figure bill!

Ok thanks for the info guys, shall I be moving my fingers at all at this stage? I mean I can gently move my fingers perfectly really though a bit painful, but I can't hold anything not even my phone in that hand, any weight on it is really painful, but Iv never had a pot on my wrist and hand before so I'm worried about not being able to move my fingers properly again when it's healed if I don't wiggle them, but is wiggling them doing damage if done gently?

Also my fingers are really reAlly cold I keep using a hair dryer on them to warm them up whats that about? Lol

I have damaged my scaphoid and didn't realise so never got it looked at, too late to do anything about it now apparently. Aches most of the time and if I grip something too hard or hold heavy things a certain way it just breaks again or whatever it does and take's a few weeks for it to get ok to use again.

Yep broken 'em a couple of times.

Actually have a lump in my hand where one healed a bit funny.. Took absolutely ages to properly fix itself.. i thought i perhaps had a trapped nerve in there or something cos it took over a yr before the pain subsided.. The doc wanted to send a camera in there to see, but it would have cost too much (I live in the USA) so i just decided to live with the pain, and then eventually it just went away.

My first break just took a regular few weeks to heal.. no problems, so as with any bone breaks its you and your luck.. no two cases are ever the same.

Well my two metacarpal breaks on my dominant hand were fixed during the operation where I had permanent screws put in place under neural block about nine days after the accident.

But as soon as the cast came off 14 days later, the first thing every professional said to me was that my hand was rather swollen.

I was referred to the hospital physio, three times a week for three weeks, but inroads were tiny (barely any movement in the joints after the knuckles).

I was then referred to the Wessex Rehab Unit at Salisbury, which I attended for five weeks, with daily ~6 hour physio sessions spread out over ~8 hours, Mon-Fri. Many tasks were so simple, but they made a massive difference, I went there with a "thing at the end of my right arm" and came away with a far more normal right hand.

Almost 11 months on since the accident, I still get days where my hand feels relatively stiff in terms of joint movement, but that is usually quickly resolved by holding a warm drink mug and then doing some of the exercises I was told to do by physios all those months ago.

Even now, my hand is still weaker than my non-dominant hand, but it is not far off and usually does enough for my similar lifestyle before and since.

I once stupidly punched a TV screen and my whole hand swelled up so that you couldn't even see knuckles, just looked like a blown up marigold. Not sure if I broke anything, i guess I didn't as i'd have known about it surely?

Well that was a bit silly lol but yeah my hand swelled about three times the size and went blue was a bit sore to touch and I wouldn't of gone to hospital if
My missus didn't make me, and I was shocked when I was told i had three broken bones and the nurse looking at the x Ray just pulled a ouuushhhh face when she saw the x Ray and they was quite shocked that I didn't want anything for the pain it didn't really hurt much at all, nor does it now only when I try lift anything at all it hurts but that's to be expected less than 48 hours after breaking them lol. I just can't wait for them to sort it out Thursday and what have ya and for them to tell me how long I'll have to have a pot on for because it's annoying as hell.

Broke that little bugger back when I was around 21. That was not fun at all. Didn't realise I'd done any damage first (yes, alcohol was involved), but when I woke the next morning I was in agony and my wrist had swollen up to the size of a small orange and was all manner of black, purple and yellow.
