Broken my sata data connector

Ok guys,

On one of my sata drives, as I slid the hdd caddy out from my case, one of the sata cables popped off the hdd....only problem is that it took the little plastic bracket off the hdd as well (the thing that the cable plugs into).

I dont think this is going to be something that I can fix to be honest (and have remain working). I was thinking that to get the actual data off the drive I could cut the end off of a sata cable, seperate out each little subcable and somehow manually attach the subcables to the pins on the hdd. Has anyone ever tried this? If there is a guide online somewhere it would be ace :D

Am I the only one that is starting to think that those little connetors on the end of sata hdds are actually rather flimsy for the job?

Happened to me before. I just used some araldite to put it back on (I jammed a bit of metal in behind to press the plastic bracket against the metal connectors whilst the glue cured).

Works to this day and has been pretty solid too.

Sata connectors are abysmally flimsy.

Bought a SSD which had the power half snapped clean off. Pins were intact albeit totally unsupported. Bought a SATA power cable and carved that up to get the supporting bit that had been snapped off and used superglue then epoxy to secure it. Works fine.

Yep, I've had to superglue the plastic back on to one of my 500GB drives.

Only happened the once, and hasn't failed yet.

Had the SATA power socket break on a raptor hdd a while back, thankfully it was only a tiny piece, drive still works fine to this day.

Thanks for the replies guys!
Working away for this week (for like the 8th week since christmas) but will let you know how it goes when i get back next weekend :)
