Broken PS3 (LED Blinking Problem)

Does it flash yellow for a split second before flashing red?

You have the YLOD (Yellow Light of Death). It can cost up to £150 to fix from Sony, or for free if you still have your warrenty.

Look for a tutorial on youtube how to fix it. Its not hard to be honest

Thanks, I dont think its worth it as you can pick up another PS3 for £180 or less

Looked and no fix is available. It looks like a motherboard failiure.

Its usually broken solder on a motherboard connection due to overheating and cooling - I think. My friend put his in an oven but the **** forgot to remove the USB bus so it melted them and he couldn't connect his controllers.
