Hi my dads says he cant load up web pages, but hes connected to the internet because i just called him on skype and sent him a message on steam?

Hes tried chrome and explorer but they wont connect? Hes ran a quick scan on micro sec essentials, hes now running a full scan. Also winamp wont connect to internet, hes tried to restart modem and pc and disable and re-enable ethernet.

He said he hasn't changed anything to cause this.

Anyone got any ideas.

Cheers

possibly a DNS problem, ask him to open his web browser and type 209.85.147.104 into the address bar and hit enter. Do you see googles search page appear?

hiya yes its went to google, i remember now that hes had this before, i typed in the dns address from isp when he had xp installed in tcp/ip.

With win 7 theres 2 one is ip version 6 and ip version 4, which one needs to be configured or is it both.

Thanks

what ISP is he with and does he have a router or just a modem? To be honest, I thought that the DNS server address is handled automatically in most cases these days, try setting it to automatic configuration with no manual settings and see if it just pops up and works.

Try telling him to run a command prompt and typing ipconfig /flushdns

If that doesnt work, try ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew and see how it goes

If not even a simple router restart may help!

Could also be a proxy server having been set, under internet options, connections then LAN settings, make sure the proxy server bix is unchecked.
