Bruce Willis acting-career

Used to enjoy his films in the past and loved Moonlighting but it was clear that after a while his ego got in the way of his professional courtesy and turned into a world class diva. There are quite a few interviews from actors and directors that found him impossible to work with due to his ego. (Kevin Smith and Stallone spring to mind) His latest stuff has been utter drivel. The last Die hard movie was utterly terrible (believe this was when some people started to speculate he has a problem with his brain) and havnt even bothered watching the plethora of Netflix trash he has done recently. I am sure he will do just fine and have a very comfortable rest of his life.

Could this explain the garbage that Steven Seagal's been churning out for decades?
No

That's almost certainly money laundering/realising you've spaffed all your money away and been such a pain to work with, whilst losing your one actual specific talent (looking good doing martial arts*) that no one will cast you in a proper film where the funding isn't "slightly murky";)

I feel a bit sorry for Bruce, it appears that he's likely been being taken advantage of for years by those around him to get him to make films where if reports are true he wasn't really aware of what was going on (and in some cases was dangerous with blank firing guns).

*There is more than one of his films in the last few years where there appears to be a fake leg used in one of the close up kick shots.

Is it worse that the De Niro movie The Irishman where he is supposed to be beating up some guy that pushed his daughter?

He made some good films but his last few have been awful where it looked like he would take anything offered.

I don't think there's much point commenting something like this when it's clearly exactly what he was doing in light of this new information. I'd like to think/hope it was a conscious decision to simply get as much money under his belt before completely deteriorating, rather than being taken advantage of.

I think it may have started as a deliberate thing, but going by some of the reports I've seen it sounds like he was quite confused about what was going on ~2 years ago, at which point it starts to look like possible exploitation:(

That would certainly explain a lot. Any idea how that actually works ?
The "traditional" money laundering via films thing is basically you make a film very cheaply but cost everything much higher* so you rinse it in one go, or you make the film then basically massively inflate the sales figures via friendly outlets.
IE back in the days of small cinemas you might say that there were far more people going to watch it than there really were, so you get the money from "ticket sales" that might be 10-100 times (or more) what they really were as it is hard to prove otherwise, or you'd say you rented it out on tape thousands of times with a high number of "late" fees. From memory the "packed theatre" and "high rentals" were a favourite of organised crime in the US in the 70's and 80's as they often had an "interest" in the theatres and the rental locations.

*This lives on in spirit with "hollywood accounting" where you double/triple/quad bill as much as you can for things like advertising (IE you take out a full page advert for 4 films, and bill all four for the full cost of the advert). The result is that a film that cost 100 million to make might never officially make a profit as far as the actors residuals are concerned even if it does sales of a billion or more. IIRC the Star Wars films have largely not made a profit according to the royalties/residuals most of the actors are meant to get, which is why if you can you make sure your contract states royalties are based on gross income, not the net.

Oops

https://www.theguardian.com/film/20...t-performance-award-razzies-revoked-diagnosis
The organizers of the Razzies parody awards show have rescinded Bruce Willis’s 2021 award in light of the actor’s recently disclosed aphasia diagnosis.

The annual awards, which recognize the worst films and performances, gave Willis his own special category this year: “Worst performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 movie”.

Willis was also nominated eight times, winning for his lead performance in the sci-fi film Cosmic Sin.

Days after the ceremony, however, Willis’s family announced that the actor was retiring after being diagnosed with aphasia, a disorder that affects the ability to understand language and communicate.

On Thursday the Razzies decided to revoke Willis’s award, saying it was no longer appropriate.

“After much thought and consideration, the Razzies have made the decision to rescind the Razzie Award given to Bruce Willis, due to his recently disclosed diagnosis,” said the Razzies co-founders John Wilson and Maureen Murphy in a statement.

They noted that the special category created for Willis “will not be repeated”, as it was never meant to continue.

I don't see that as an oops, his films of the past year have been monumentally awful, now we know why, and thus the Razzies found out at the same time, thus rescinded their category.
Seems all very reasonably to me.
Call out ***** where it is *****, but if you find or realise later than manipulation, deceit and illness are involved, then state the mitigation and move along.
