BSOD Overclocked i5 Processor

Hello,

I have recently been getting the BSOD every other day. My system info is as follows:

Intel i5 processor CPU 760 @ 2.80GHz oc 4.01GHz
4GB RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285
M4 128GB SSD

A lot of the forums I have been reading suggest it is a hardware related fault and that if my PC is overclocked (which it is) I should disable it.

I have updated the BIOS version and downloaded the latest drivers.

Here is an extract from the BSOD mini dump:

WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (124)
A fatal hardware error has occurred. Parameter 1 identifies the type of error
source that reported the error. Parameter 2 holds the address of the
WHEA_ERROR_RECORD structure that describes the error conditon.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000000, Machine Check Exception
Arg2: fffffa800626b028, Address of the WHEA_ERROR_RECORD structure.
Arg3: 00000000b6000000, High order 32-bits of the MCi_STATUS value.
Arg4: 0000000000100125, Low order 32-bits of the MCi_STATUS value.

If your PC has been stable for a good while at your existing settings and has just started experiencing problems then you are probably looking at hardware issues. If it's never been stable for any length of time then reset your BIOS to prove whether it is definately down to bad overclocking settings.

Otherwise I'd concur with Wazza300 and suggest upping the voltage to your CPU. If you're using a negative offset to modify voltage and the BSOD's are happening at idle then you'll need to reduce your LLC in order to bring your offset closer to 0. Otherwise you'll need to increase your offset or fixed voltage a step at a time keeping an eye that voltages and temps dont go over safe limits for your chip.

As the memory controller is integrated into the CPU both VTT and VCore could be considered CPU voltages.

I've never touched VTT and until I got my overcock stable I had both 101 and 124 errors both of which were resolved by upping VCore. I thought you'd only need to up VTT if you upped BCLK.

yeah thats true for sb/ib chips but older x58,p55 124 is 100% mem controller and 101 is cpu voltage

Thank you all for your quick replies.

Here is a bit more info:

Motherboard: Gigabyte P55-USB3
Intel Core i5 760
Core Voltage: 1.360V
Core Speed: 4011.01 MHz

Any suggestions on diagnosing the problem further?

Thanks again

Thanks wazza300

I've checked the qpi/vtt voltage and it was set to 1.1v.

I have set it to 1.3v.

I'll see how that goes.

Thanks for your help

Cheers

Hello,

I have recently changed the qpi/vtt voltage to 1.3v from 1.1v. This unfortunately has not resolved the problem.

Please see extract from log below?

Any help/advice will be much appreciated?

Thanks
Kishan

SOLVED

Hello,

The BSOD has stopped since increasing the qpi/vtt voltage and flashing my M4 SSD.

Thanks all for your help. ;)
