BSOD - RAM Speed. Is it hardware related?

I've been reading around a bit more online and it could also be a PSU/CPU issue making the RAM cause BSOD when it's at full speed?

I know my motherboard manual states you can only use 1600MHz RAM with Ivy Bridge (Mine is i3 3220 so is Ivy Bridge) so I don't think the problem would come from there.

When I do get my new RAM and if it still BSOD's, what would my next steps be?

Also, would this RAM be fine to go with?

I wouldn't be put off by one review as any RAM could turn out faulty

What PSU do you have?

That Kingston RAM will be fine although I prefer low-profile heat spreaders so there aren't any problems in future with blocking CPU coolers

My PSU is an XFX 550W. Brand new only a few days ago.

Also I noticed on the 'RAM Support' list for my mobo, the GEIL ram isn't on there and neither is the Kingston RAM.

What do you suggest?

Doesn't matter if its not on the memory support list, they aren't going to list all RAM otherwise list would be massive

Ok thanks, I'll get that RAM ordered now.

So if it does BSOD again when I try and get the RAM running at 1600MHz, is it safe to assume the mobo is faulty and would need RMA'ing?

Yep I can't think of anything else except increasing NB Voltage although can't seem to find it on the manual for your motherboard

Ok fingers crossed it'll be OK. Really don't want the hassle of replacing the mobo...

I'm running memtest now with the RAM at 1600. If memtest doesn't report any errors will that mean mobo issue?

Yep we can only assume it is mobo, have you ordered new RAM though?

Yeah I'll be getting the new RAM tomorrow. Had to stop the memtest as I needed to use the PC, it was taking ages.

Just really hope it isn't the mobo.

Just double checked and on the MOBO support list there really isn't many 4GB's listed. :/

Ok guys, I got the new RAM.

I put it in, set the XMP straight away and it booted up absolutely fine, no BSOD. Each stick of RAM is running at 798MHz in CPUz.

Is it like the RAM and my mobo just didn't get on?

Just another quick one, on CPU-z the DRAM Frequency says 781.X - Where X is this seems to fluctuate between .1, .2, and .3. Is this normal?
