BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I do have a discount available on Sky Broadband services but I must admit I'm unsure about the pricing for the Ultrafast 500 package. Send me a trust message or start a conversation if you'd like one.

I'm quite a few months off renewal but when it's closer to the time, do you mind if I message you then about the potential discount?

Mine is £42/month for Fibre 500 with the discount.

Is that the top package, I believe it is from the small bit of research i've done? Half the reason i went with 900/110 BT was for the upload, the download is pretty wasted on me tbh, 500, hell, even 300 is more than adequate. Would happily stick with 300 if they would still give the 110 up.

Yeah that's the highest Sky currently offer. It is a shame the upload speeds aren't better, but it's ample for me. Can easily do by backups.

Had SwishFibre installed last Friday. They're rolling out in the area and had a pre-order offer on for their 900 package free install and free for 6 months on a 1 month rolling contract so was rude not to.

Don't think I'll keep the 900 package when the 6 months is up as its £75 a month, so will likely drop it to 400 which is £45. I'm really impressed with the "router" they provided, it's only a 2 port ethernet wifi plug adaptor (which I've plugged into my powered 8 port switch) made by Plume but gives full house coverage and the app has fantastic controls for it including a built in ad blocker which is blocking web ads just fine, only thing it's not blocking is YouTube ads on the TV so I might finally get round to installing PiHole....maybe

Moved over to CF today and can finally say good riddance to VM:

Can't fault their customer service and the experience thus far, especially for £25p/m

If anyone in London who is looking to join let me know, got some referral codes going :)

Where roughly are you located?

Go live. I'm guessing they will both arrive within six months of each other as is typical. Just need to get off VM, had another area wide fault this week with consistent packet loss.

Another thing I've noticed, connection is much more stable compared to VM.

I have those little red packet loss dots in the same place on my graph. Sometimes it just makes the connection feel slow, other times you have to refresh a page.

The speed is fine when tested but the actual experience using it is sluggish sometimes.

I can never get any of my graphs without any red dots. There are very little but it's never flawless.

I'm currently on BT 900/100 for £49.99/month, so think my price will be going up to around £55/month after the rise in a couple of months time.

On the BT site it's offering me a new contract with Halo 3 for £50.99 but I guess it would also eat the price increase.

I may just sit on this one as my contract expires in March 2023 so I'll eat about a years worth of £55/month before I can re-contract for a better price again.

I believe Openreach are starting to do the works for FTTP on our street so I'm hoping it'll be available soon. Whilst Virgin Media has been alright in this area, I'd much prefer FTTP eventually.

Worryingly, when I do the postcode check on the Openreach site, my house number isn't listed (both neighbours either side are). I can only guess it's because we don't have a BT phoneline installed currently? As FTTP shouldn't need it, I'm hoping it'll be alright when it comes to ordering. Anyone had a similar experience?

If you see an Openreach guy about best ask him if your house is included. When Virgin Media installed their fibre on our estate they missed myself and my neighbour as we have a private shared drive about 15 metres to the house and because of this they didnt lay the cable or access point on the pavement at the end of the drive. So basically if you have a "non standard" layout or access to the road they just miss you out and dont even ask you or give you an alternative. Months later get Virgin ringing up and visiting our door asking if we want to sign up to Virgin cable then when you point out they didnt actually lay it to connect up they just dont want to know. Its like we are in an island off limits. We havent got FTTP in our area yet and I would like it but I`m not looking forward to what Openreach do or not do hopefully as we have FTTC it should be fine.

Just checked this website https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/where-when-building-ultrafast-full-fibre-broadband and we are in the April 22 to 2025 area so need to keep an eye out.

Non techhie family member is getting sky ultrafast 1. Existing provider was talktalk and it's a 65mbps fttc connection. Just connected via a BT mastersocket.

Is sky ultrafast 1 fttp? I think it is as it's a 145mbps package which seems too fast for fttc but I'm out of touch with UK broadband for the last 10 years!

Can anyone who has a similar package give me an idea of what BT openreach install in your home and also what sort of router sky will send them to connect with?

145mbps will be fttp, think fttc caps out at at 70-80.

for me they installed an ONT inside near where the router is located, that needed a regular UK plug to work. Ethernet from that to the router.

I am not sure what kind of router Sky give as I have a BT homehub and am with BT.
