BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

As above speeds have always been near full line speed for me, only 1 big "outage" so far where they managed to drop a ton of people, myself included from 1.6 to basically nothing over a weekend (failed upgrade apparently)

No problem using own device and just uses the usual generic BT PPPOE details.

Just giving up at this point. I've been showing as "we're building in this area" for over a year.
I guess they don't want to dig up the whole road for twenty houses.

Can you use EE as your own router (PPPoE) will EE email you of PPPoE details or you have to ring up and ask for PPPoE because they might refused to give out PPPoE details? I could be wrong.

I have had no issues with EE connection, always 1600Mbps+.

I do use a self built OPNsense firewall as my router.

I have not even opened the box of the router they sent me. It could be rubbish.

That's good to hear positive news.

My GiffGaff 900Mbps service:

934 down, 938 up
Ping 4ms, Jitter 0ms, Loss -

I had my service installed 4 weeks ago and have found it top notch. I moved from EE 900Mbps and have found there are none of the tiny glitches I got with them - like none of the NextDNS "doh resolve: context deadline exceeded" errors in the NextDNS logs, which suggest a drop in connectivity. Even better, I pay £35 a month to GiffGaff for a rolling monthly contract, so I can switch at any time.

GiffGaff install an ONT so all I needed to do was connect the ONT to my existing router, change the WAN connection to DHCP, VLAN 911 and everything sprang to life, with no need to change any other settings.

Unlikely I know but is anyone on here part of the Openreach XGS-PON trial? Rollout supposed to be moving beyond the initial trial areas early on in 2027, and whilst download is plenty getting a bit more upload would sure be nice :)

Well looks like BT are finally rolling out some infrastructure here had a bunch of guys banging and hammering and installing some kind of very thin cable (optical?) around the building could be FTTP at last, not had any notification so its a surprise. Just when I was thinking of switching to 4/5G mobile as well

I couldn't help but talk to the guys who rolled out the infrastructure around where I live when I spotted it happening back in 2020, go and ask them what they are doing :) Hopefully its good news!

Had this email :(

We're aiming to build Full Fibre to 25 million homes and businesses by December 2026 and we're not stopping there. We intend to keep building after that too. That's further and faster than any other broadband network in the UK.

As with any national infrastructure programme, sometimes we come across issues we weren't expecting that affect our plans. We've reviewed our build plans for your area and there will be a delay getting Full Fibre to Gucci-ville.

Yup, I did the same to the guys who were doing it around ours in Feb/March of this year. They were more than happy to chat and gave us an idea of when it'd be available - and as of a few months ago we've had FTTP finally!
