BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Oh, I thought I'd ask separately, how is switching ISP's these days, quick, painless, or a pain in the ass? THe first switch involving a mac code when they were new was a disaster with lies upon lies about how we can't get our mac code. The last switch we went from Bulldog, to Virgin, to Be because Virgin have awful cable around our way and woeful net performance, speed, ping mostly, disconnects. Either way, Bulldog kept our phone line but kept saying they'd released it to BT.

So we argued with Bulldog for a while before someone released the line and everyone did what they were supposed to do.

Are BT good at the switching over thing?

ALso I'm sure I've read that Infinity install is engineer done and they will do one extension for free? Will they happily run a cable down the side of the house to the upstairs office to do this? We have existing holes in the wall from the Virgin install in both rooms.

DM, mine has just done the same. says i can get it now. But my cab has not been upgraded?! lol!

I swear it must be a mistake, going to have to have a good look tomorrow but i checked 2 nights ago and no fibre cab in sight.

Everybody should check again as it seems it has updated just now

My parents address has been updated and it's saying they can get it now, The cab only when in last week so I doubt it's true and the checker is borked.

That is possible, but two of the three people in this thread have seen the cab go in.

Naan H, is it possible that your house is just connected to another cab, or its a more modern cab and they stuck everything in the same one anyway? There are, afaik, quite a few times you'd think a house would be connected to a box right outside the house, but its actually connected to one a couple streets over.....

If it is the checker gone haywire, order quickly then when they call to say they've screwed up demand 6 months free when its finally available, win win :p

It must be, this is torture lol!

I think there is a blocked duct near my cab, 'BT' and has been sprayed over the pavement near it with a marking , prob where the blockage is

I have checked with Adsl 24 and with the leaked spreadsheet from April this year, and I am def connected to the cab about 400m away. A massive new cab went up about 100m up the road from my cab, but that is directly next to another PCP, which I think is served from another exchange.

It must be borked

Is it possible that its cheaper and easier for BT to put a fibre box next to one, and a copper line from that fibre box to your cab, rather than copper from cab to the exchange, its only 100metre's extra and could potentially save them a crapload of effort?

I just checked again as its been saying "BT Infinity? never heard of it mate" for the last 3 days after saying "dec 31st 2011" for 6 months and I was convinced my little village was going to get ignored.

:D:D:D I was so happy I was bouncing around the box that I work in! Currently on about 5mb. Finally I'll be able to play online games again and stream stuff properly!

Poor sod in the room next to me who is on 2mb still can't get it but the people at the end of his street can.

Is it possible that enabling the cabinets takes a lot of effort at the exchange and possibly some down time so they go around doing cabinets for 2-3 months, then go to the exchange and enable them all properly in one go? Hence some people waiting seemingly months after the cabinets seem to go in and get connected properly and others it happens very quickly.

Would also make sense why seemingly a huge bunch of people get enabled on the same day rather than a street at a time.
