BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Thanks for the idea but it didn't work. It looks like the BT website is knackered, I'll give it another go in the morning if it doesn't work then I'll place my order over the phone.

Yeah it's good cashback through quidco I'm planning on using it to buy a decent dual band router and ditch the HomeHub.

I kept getting same error so in end I used the agent chat window and she told me to use the "non working line" option and then you can enter your phone number later in the process and the order went through okay.

Install date now in 3 weeks time.

just got to work out now whether to lay ethernet cable to upstairs for my PC or use wireless usb/pci card. My wife uses a laptop so thats not a problem.

They should upgrade all BT Broadband customers to this service but restrict the speed.

As myself and many others are paying the best BT package and only getting a 6Mb Speed.

Complete economically infeasible.

You're paying for an ADSL package, not VSDL2. If you want to upgrade all you need to do is...upgrade.

They are slowly upgrading ADSL customers, A friend of mine got upgraded few months back, they called him and asked him if he wanted a free upgrade as he was on the top package.

ADSL:
£28 PM - £20/mth for 3 months
+ Line rental from £10

vDSL2:
£28 PM - FREE for 3 months
+ Line rental from £10

This is what happened to me. Called up and said we could upgrade at the same price.

This. when my mum called up to change ISPs, she asked if it was free for the upgrade to FTTC when when they upgraded the exchange, and the guy on the phone said yes. Both highest ADSL and VDSL package are the same price per month anyway...

Why would you ever buy a Hotfile/Rapidshare subscription when newsgroups exists, confuses me maybe I am missing something?

I was getting 40Mb/s before 3pm then after I've been getting around 15-17 Mb/s, only got it installed today, I've downloaded only about 15GB today on option 2.

Is this normal for infinity?

My usenet speeds seem to match what I can get off speedtest.net

Not normal for me, you should do a speedtest here:

http://speedtester.bt.com/

Paste stats when done.

nice ping tho :)

Hold up why has my IP profile been changed? If I was reciving the full 40Mb/s whilst the BT guy was here why has it suddenly changed.

I read a few posts back it takes 5 days for it to be reset, is this true or is this just a temporary limit for peak hours?

Am loving the ping 3-4ms better than the BT option 3 I came from.

Did you turn the modem off? (white one)

It shouldn't drop unless there is a line fault or modem has been turned off.

Its dropped a lot so hmm maybe a line fault :( unless you have turned it off like 50 times ^^

You should log a fault on the site ASAP imo.

Nope its been up since its been installed, been on-line all day playing games / downloading. It did spike for a second, you think its worth calling them up, or do it normally fix itself?

Well it may go back up if it isn't a fault, but it will take a few days (happens in the early hours 3-5am-ish).

You can request a profile reset on the BT forums I think.

Is your modem wall mounted?

I read that wall mounting helps with the heat issues, improving stability.

Its weird because on that speedtest you linked you have 7ms, which makes it look you still have interleave off (fastpath), which would be the first thing to turn back on if you have stability problems.
