BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

We're getting FTTP on our street as part of the BDUK rollout, roadworks started back end of Jan, CBT went up on the pole mid Feb and they were outside my house down the duct pulling/blowing fibre on 19th Feb. A couple of further roadworks have gone on down the road the last couple of weekends with some more scheduled for this sunday.

I guess the sensible answer will be how longs a piece of string, but whats a likely scenario for when we'll be able to order based on the above?

Having suffered 2mb and then unreliable 4g since 2016, the install day will be joyous.

Keep checking your address on BT's DSL Checker and it should update to something like WBC FTTP available.

It's very hard to even guess. Whilst the infrastructure on your street may now be complete they'll wait until the entire infrastructure for the area build is complete before taking orders. So if they happen to have done your street last then you may not have long to wait but if they did you first then it'll be a longer wait.

I'm in the same boat, Openreach have been busy around here installing fibre and were installing CBT's in my street about a month ago I'm checking the BT DSL Checker and Openreach Fibre checker every few days to see when I'll be able to get an order in.

not true - my street was one of the first done - They placed the order 2 weeks after the workmen left my street ( they were still working 3 streets away ) when i asked one he told me i could order after 5 months! keep an eye on bt.com or exchange checker :D

does it take time for fttp to settle down. i got upgraded yesterday. and have been running the openreach speed test. it has ranger from 7Mbps to 28mbps. but nevr the 75 Mbps i was told i would get

well i noticed paged were not loading as fast as before (was on fttc) so have been running the Bt whole sale speed test. i have everything else disconnected from the FritBox router and have the DT connect via a cat5 cable. i have also tried the laptop pug into the router (again with nothing else connected) with a new cat5 cable and same thing different speed each time. I have tried the BTwhole sale advance test for FTTP but it just give a error and tell me to "raise the issue with your service provider"

does the router make a difference, as i could drive over to a friends house and borrow his

I believe the point that was being made is that the speeds you are stating you are getting are in the range of FTTC which is an 80/20 max service, which is likely why they told you you would get 75Mbit. FTTP will be terminated via an ONT and give significantly faster speeds, if you actually have FTTP and were told/are getting 75Mbit, something is very, very wrong.

No, some ISPs are offering FTTC speeds/plans that are delivered via FTTP. Or in simple terms, 40/80Mb FTTP packages in areas where FTTP is available through Openreach infrastructure.

no it is fttp, i had to help the run in the fiber cable. turner out it was a badly config router, zen sorted it out Sat afternoon and has been stable since

As aid above, just because it’s fttp doesn’t mean it has to be higher speeds.

My folks are on the lowest FTTP package they could get as that’s all their new build can get, they are on a 50 meg down package.

Been offered early sign up for BT ultrafast via email yesterday, but quite a price jump...currently paying £30/month for up to 78MB'ish where i'm realistically getting 24MB.

They want £67/month for ultrafast up to 250mb, based on what I get from 78MB, is it safe to assume i'd only see about a third of the 250mb speed?

That's ludicrous. I'm paying £46 for 300/50.

Does that include halo as that price is very high for the standard 300mb?.

Ok, when I click through it turns into £49.99/month inclusive of Halo. Not sure why it was £67 on first page. They're guaranteeing only 100MB speed with £20 back each time it falls below that.
You should be able to negotiate with them on the price, I took the 150/30 package which was around £40 but managed to haggle them down to 34 so there is room for movement.

Interesting, I am currently on the 330Mbps service so hoping I get the 1gbps but I guess I will find out this week when they place order.

just found out the trial order glitched and didn’t go through, so I need to wait and hear from them for any further news. Part of being a trial I suppose, we are the guinea pigs!

No flex on price on the phone yesterday so went ahead and signed up for the 250 package. Wanted it regardless and happy with 49 compared to my current options.

Guy was at our house today preparing the fibre cable ready to come back in two weeks and do the internal stuff.
