BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I’m on the 150 fttp package, think it’s 39.99 a month (can’t remember what cashback offer I got with it).

There’s no change to my package speed or price, they just stuck us on Halo 1 which as far as I can tell means we just get the 4g thing sent to us if our connection goes down, and our price won’t go up when out of contract.

The stupid thing with the Halo guarantee is it says you will never pay more than a new customer for the same service, but this excludes RPI increases. Already I'm paying 51p per month more than a new customer so once my minimum term expires are they going to drop my price back down again to £39.99 or do I have to cancel and re-signup as a new customer to get the RPI increases removed.

Definitely some wriggle room on your pricing there, they are selling me the same thing for £29.99 apparently.

Ignoring the fact they have messed up my speeds a bit, when you're nearing end of contract you can definitely try and negotiate a bit on that pricing.

Yeha since new packages are out pricing has come down, still with the cashback and the gift card thing my monthly average cost taking those into account was something like £31.

Just signed up to the fibre 100 (150), kept my eyes out for deals but it was £39.99 but there was an £85 on TCB which sweetens the deal. Couldn’t find anything better.

tbh, the reliability alone (based on my neighbour’s experiencing) outweighs the slight premium.

Literally posted a deal they are running 2 posts up!

Yea, what I've done is just go to the online cancellation form, it gives you the option to state why you are cancelling. I've popped that through and it says they will be in touch to discuss. I've still got my virgin account active for a month or so anyway even if it involves this cancellation going through and starting again.

Cheers for highlighting mate... guess I've got to decide whether I just stick with the fibre 100 and make a £10/month saving or stick with paying the £39.99 and go for the full fibre 300 :|

For those with BT’s 910Mb package, what’s your Stay Fast Guarantee? They’re saying mine’s going to be 455Mb but I’m just wondering if that’s just a very conservative figure.

If it's anything like my 150 package, I've been getting an absolutely rock solid 148+ speed it just doesn't falter like FTTC used to.

I often think the stay fast guarantee is there to try and eliminate those who persistently complain that they aren’t getting the speed but it turns out all of their speed tests are over Wi-Fi. Saying that, even 455Mb is pushing things over Wi-Fi unless you have APs wired in on larger properties.

You would hope that on their 900 package that people would be a bit more savvy to the wireless networking equipment required to give you those speeds everywhere.

As long as you’re wired in you should be getting the advertised speed 99% of the time. If my memory serves correctly, BT may only honour that stay fast guarantee over consistently low results from wired speed tests. I know Virgin’s minimum speeds are based on wired tests only.

Everything other than my IPad will be wired :)

Yeah I was thinking it was just a low figure to cover their own arses. But I’ll find out on Tuesday morning.

Had it for a bit to test it out.

As others said wifi speeds may be patchy unless you have really good coverage.

From cabled in i think it was usually above 600 but not solid at 900 all the time.

150 is solid though, one of the reasons I think a 300 or 500 connection is more likely to give advertised speeds consistently.

Managed to get my mums new FTTP service on the Full Fibre 100 (150mbs) for £34.99pcm from here - bt.com/newfullfibre

£105 topcashback on top too

Pretty happy with that but a bit miffed some have gotten it for £29.99pcm!

I think I know the answer to this. I'm with Plusnet and out of contract shortly. I don't want to enter in to another 12 or 18 month contract as I'm hopefully moving house before March next year. I have FTTC now and the new houses can't get FTTC, so my only real choices are ADSL (11 Mbit ish) or Virgin Media. I take it I won't be able to exit my contract with Plusnet so I may as well just stay out of contract until I've moved?

Yes. Plusnet's T&Cs would have you either pay the early termination costs or start a new contract for ADSL so if you know you're moving in a few months then just pay a bit more for now to not be in a contract.

Ohh my.. just woke up to find BTO pulling fibre cables outside my house.... I am more excited than xmas right now...

Even I got excited reading that wishing it was me. :D:eek:

That's my weakest part, some aluminium and copper for 250 meters.
