BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

No roderz it's not normal for drop outs to occur after a reset, mine has only dropped once in 4 months then it came back. It was during my "low profile" period too.
You could try ditching the HH3 for a cable router capable of PPOE, many have done this and found drop outs to be reduced or even banished.

Just to add, Infinity has been very poor for me these last few days on BC2 :/

Hmm, I dont think I can afford a new router any time soon.

As for BC2, It used to be great for me, however I havnt played it for a while but this does concern me considering Battlefield 3 is out in just over a month time.

Is anyone here on BT Business Infinity?

A local business I do IT work had infinity installed 6 months ago and this past month they have had connection problems with connection seeming to drop. BT says their line is fine and a speedtest confirms the line is the speed it is meant to be apart the dropping.

Do you think this is a modem/router problem? How reliable are these fibre routers of BT?

ok finally! BT Infinity has been ordered and installation date is set for this Friday. They say that the Openreach modem and the HH3 will be delivered on Wednesday.

I have however just ordered this bad boy after reading the BT Infinity forums,

1 x Draytek Vigor 2750N Series VDSL Router/Firewall.

Hope I made a good choice. Lots of people seem to recommend it and it seems very easy to setup according to:

http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/kb/kb_vigor_v2750_setup.html

Anyway will I have to wait for the BT engineer to go before I can swap them over or should I wait the 10 days profiling period before I do it? I take it I shouldnt ask him to use it instead of installing the openreach modem and HH3?

edit: Anyone else using this vdsl modem router?

just found a review of the 2750N online

"Bought this router to replace the two-box Home Hub and VDSL Modem that BT provides for their Infinity FTTC customers (I'm already short on power sockets!). When the engineer came to do my install, I had the Draytek already setup for BT Infinity using the instructions here at BBB (also on the Draytek site). I asked the engineer to skip the modem/Home Hub and just plug straight into the Draytek - he was quite happy to do this, and the Draytek instantly picked up the connection. I'm now getting 37Mbps down and 8Mbps up.

The router itself is the most versatile I have ever owned, with a somewhat bewildering array of options. Nevertheless, it was very easy to setup, and I had all my devices (mixture of b/g/n and wired Gigabit) connected within 20mins. Great things like support for multiple SSIDs and bind MAC to IP make things much easier when you have relatively 'large' home network.

I have something which is really hacking me off.

My area has had FTTC available for well over a year now. Unfortunately my cabinet along with others close to the seafront in Brighton and Hove have not been upgraded. Looking at the BT Wholesale checker it is scheduled to be upgraded in December this year. I looked at it today as the last time I looked it said September 2011.

It keeps getting pushed back every time I look and has been since Summer 2010. I remember reading this story which I think might have something to do with it.

I can't get any answer from BT. When I call them they don't even have the info from the BT Wholesale checker and say nothing other than it isn't available. I don't know who if anyone is objecting regarding my own relevant cabinet. I can't seem to get any sort of straight answer from BT.

It might be due to BT having to dig up the road to fit new ducting, or getting planning permission from the council. My own cab was delayed for some time due to the fact that BT needed to dig up the road about half a mile away from my cab due to the ducts in the area where completely shot.

Any idea how I might find out what the hold up is?

you need to email the CEO of bt who then passes it down to the head of the fibre broadband division, I forgot his name, and he will give you all the information you need.

I'm not going to dish out the email you need on here, but a quick google will see you right.

Not a problem I've PM'd spud the email :)

I was thinking of moving to BT Infinity when moving out of a Virgin Media area but thankfully our new home is in a fibre optic area.

But if i couldn't get virgin i'd say BT Infinity is the next best thing for gaming.

How does BT compare with Sky? I know Infinity is fibre and Sky isn't. But i mean in general not just speed?

well the past week my speed have took a beating at night, ip profile of 38717 and im getting speeds of 10mbs via speedtests, not really great is it.

Welcome to my world of pain :)

Same with me, beyond a joke now. Im relatively close to the exchange, all they need to do is pump fibre down one road to my cabinet. Keeps getting pushed back. there shouldnt be a problem for power as there are loads of traffic lights and other 'cabinets' there.

Feel like writing to BT asking why every other cab has been done except mine

Have you tried different servers on speedtest mate? The Manchester server drops to 16meg regularly for me but hull or holland get full 35meg but higher ping

Speed.io seems more representative for me or the FTTC BT Beta speedtest

My bt business fiber is still going at 4.5mbyte a sec and 20-35 latency. I have downloaded too much this month (600gb since 2 sept). I almost feel bad about it.

I still think that virgin offers better latency on their 50mbit package but BT definitely feels more stable, but i can't tell if that is because it is business. I had poor performance through ssh tunnel on virgin 50mbit, capped at 500kbyte. While i can do pretty much full speed with bt.

Naan I'm able to get it and have signed up to it... but it's taken them (still to confirm a date) almost over a month to arrange the new install due to a mixup on the original install day, they blame it all on my account being in 'limbo / wholesale' ... unreal ! I signed up on the 24th August and I will hear from them again on the 22nd September to arrange a new date. My advice to anyone is DO NOT CHANGE (as I did) or miss your first install date.

My connection is awsome tonight.

Anyone here got FTTP? are the speeds the same as FTTC? My exchange goes live the end of the month for FTTP so im wondering if theres any differences in speeds.
