BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Anyone here got FTTP? are the speeds the same as FTTC? My exchange goes live the end of the month for FTTP so im wondering if theres any differences in speeds.

Someone posted in this thread a while back with FTTP. Its upto 100meg with 30meg upload I think!

I had an engineer our, again, today. However this guy really seemed to know what he was doing and I felt he generally wanted to sort out our problems with loss of speeds and dropped connection.

In the past we have had our profile reset only to have our connection constantly drop out and overtime, lose a lot of speed.

This time, the engineer ran some tests on the line, found some errors. After a minute or two, he came back with a hard hat and a ladder, at this point we knew he meant business lol. It turns out he replaced the wire which was connected to our house to a post a couple of yards away. Now, ever since he has done this, I havnt noticed any drop outs and our speed has averaged around 24-27Mbps (download). Its not quite the 37Mbps we should be getting but if it can remain stable at 25-30Mbps with pings around 35ms then im not gonna complain. I could probably have my profile re-synced again but Id rather not risk it, unless it starts to drop below say 15Mbps.

I hope this will be encouraging for some of you who have experienced similar problems. *TOUCHWOOD* I hope our problems are now solved.

Well after

I am sorry you have had a problem with your new services. We will look into what went wrong and I will ask our service team to review the compensation offer and contact you.

and

I’m really sorry for the problems you’ve had.

I’m looking into the matter and will be in touch by Tuesday with an update.

Tuesday came and went ......

So, i emailed them back and got:

So sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday.

I'm still looking into the matter and I'll be in touch either later today or tomorrow with an update.

So, nothing until I get home from work and a message from "The exec's office, about your complaint" very apologetic and so sorry about the "horrendous" issues I have faced and she is calling me back tomorrow ...........

I feel for all those who have had significant delays - Im currently on a 1mb broadband speed (thats unrelaible to boot), and FTTC was due in my street this month.........except now its more like 2nd quarter 2012!!! Arrrrggghhhh

Unstable 1mbit here, with no FTTC date at all - in fact, there's only a couple of dates for the entire county (Devon)... Must be very frustrating having the dates constantly moving back though indeed!

My exchange has been enabled since 2010, All my street cabinets are upgraded but thats all the info i can find online....

I run checkers and it just says coming soon or doesn't give me an option and says i can get adsl 2+ instead

I have seen some spray markings for FTTC and VM Cable on the floor i know VM said they are starting some upgrade work now/October... think they are sharing a hole?? I live in London and this has been a topical debate in the news lately.

Not a problem I've PM'd spud the email :)

Funnily I have emailed that chap before about issues I had with BT previously.*

*BT had mixed up our account with someone else. We kept getting BT engineers arriving to install the "new line we had ordered" and had gone onto our account. Some poor sod was getting frustrated at his engineers never turning up no doubt

My Infinity has been live a couple of days now. The engineer only took around 10 mins to move the master socket and get everything set up (though he did tell me to stack the Homehub on top of the modem. After reading this thread, the modem has gone straight on to the wall!). Speeds are absolutely fantastic, and the Homehub actually has a decent range.

Disturbingly good from BT so far, just waiting for something to go wrong...

Ok had two missed calls yesterday and then an email..

"Good news the order is now committed. Please could you let me know what days you are available to I can request an appointment."

I've told them I'm only off work two days next week, Monday and Friday so they said that they will push for Monday and let me know later today. Fingers crossed !

Holy crap!!!! Infinity installed today :). Everything went smooth. Engineer was probably in and out within 40 minutes.

As soon as the BT Infinity Engineer left, HomeHub3 was unplugged and put back in its box. Openreach modem was turned off. Draytek Vigor 2750N installed in their place.

Welcome to the club, Mana. :) I saw my upload go from 6Mb to 8.5Mb over the course of a couple of weeks, so nothing wrong with that. Very nice rig you've got there I must say!

Nice one DJ

Also just had ELC on the phone apologising for the way I have been treated - agreed on compo of £10 for the missed Engineer's visit plus three months free line rental debited off my next bill :D
