BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Sky FTTC will be live in April!

http://www.ispreview.co.uk/story/20...age-to-88-and-reveals-superfast-packages.html

£20 per month for unlimited 40/? WITHOUT any shaping. :D

I wonder if O2/Be will have a package out by then?

I take it that if your cabinet is enabled you will be able to get it as it is using BT's network. My cabinet is due to be enabled by the 30th June (though the new cabinet is all ready there) so hopefully I can stick with sky instead of going to BT

I would be very surprised if Sky FTTC wasn't GEA - which would mean you need to be on a Sky LLU exchange thats been FTTC enabled. Unless they are taking an astronomical loss on the chin and just getting on with things.

You'll need FTTC availability + Sky presence at the exchange.

I've been getting much better speeds today, not sure if BT have done something to my connection since I spoke with my ISP or whether today is just a good day.... my ISP has logged a fault with them regardless so it'll be interesting to hear what comes back from it

I ran a speed test earlier this afternoon which reported a blistering 40 down, 2 up. However, it's now dropped to just 5 down (I'm connected directly to the hub with a cable). Is this the normal peak hours contention kicking in? :(

When I had mine installed last year I got 37 immediately, then for a day or so it varied down to 10, but quickly settled back at 37 and has been fine ever since. I did get a good few outtages afterwards for a bit, but I guessed that others were having it installed around the same time and the engineer at the cab was causing this.

Regarding torrents, bandwidth is virtually nil at any time other than about 1am until 3pm week days (don't even bother at weekends). Usenet on the other hand is awesome any day any time :)

All ready on sky llu, just waiting for my exchange to be enabled for FTTC (30th March exchange, cabinet 30th June)

But taken from that link:

Expanding Traditional Broadband Coverage

Sky is extending its unbundled ( LLU ) network footprint to bring their traditional ADSL2+ based broadband services to 88% of the UK by June 2013 (currently 82%). As a result some 1.4 million extra homes will soon be covered by Sky’s network. Note that this is entirely separate from their forthcoming 'Fibre' package (above), which is based off BT's platform and not Sky's LLU.

So looks like they will be using BT's equipment

Why are you posting in this thread, it's for bt infinity. Your not with bt infinity and by posting in here people could be mistaken and think that you are.

As far as I was aware this is a general FTTC thread, that's all what BT infinity is.

Looks like I'm finally stable (day 3)

Until the connection hits the exchange.

If thats the case why would they need to send an openreach engineer

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/5004-sky-to-launch-40-mbps-fibre-service-for-20-a-month.html

In the broadband sector the largest piece of news to emerge is the anticipated launch of Sky Fibre initially offering an up to 40 Mbps (2 Mbps upload) for £20 a month from April 2012, and the product crucially will remain unlimited. The service is based around the Openreach FTTC service, which is expected to cover 30% of the UK by April. Their standard ADSL2+ unlimited product is £10 a month, though by bundling with Sky TV its price reduces to £7.50 a month. The fibre service will carry a £50 activation fee (this covers the Openreach engineer visit) and will only be available if you have Sky TV.

I'm not arguing with you, just wondering how you know for definite they aren't reselling BT's Infinity product :)
