BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I am however on the wrong upload profile of 50 Mb/s - I've read I should give it a couple of days before chasing BT as it can take a while for the right profile to kick-in. If I'm not on the proper profile by Monday I'll post on the BT Forums as theres an on-going thread there where the BT folks get it sorted for people.

Unplug your router from the WAN when you're done using it for today, do a factory reset and then turn it off. Plug the WAN back in when you get up tomorrow and power it back on, see if that clears the profile issue.

Work has just started outside of my house to put poles in place from which to run fibre to houses on the street - anyone else been in this position and have any idea how long it will now be until it's available to order? Openreach aren't saying anything

Just had my BT Fibre 900 installed - amazingly there was an unblocked duct under the lawn. I wasn't expecting that for a 1980 build house.

Currently downloading a game from Steam at 115 MB/s :D

Do a hard reset on your smart hub. This is common and I had to do it when I had my 900 installed. It defaults to the 50mb profile, resetting will force the profile to update. Also what firmware is the hub on?? the latest I am on is: v0.21.03.07094-BT and it has made the connection awesome, even over Wi-Fi

He posted again to say it was fixed.

BT have told me an openreach engineer will visit me on the 16th but doesn't need access to the property inside, he can do his bits from outside.
Is he going to attach a box to the outside of the house, I assume this is the case, I've had a look around the house though, and I can't see any BT access port, or any BT manhole type things, so where exactly is he going to be bringing things from? Or accessing them to bring them to a box outside the house?

Where does your phone line enter?

Is this your first visit? he may be investigating how to run the Fibre optic cable to your building.

They had to do that with me, first visit was to try and install the rope then another team would run the Fibre optic from the manhole to the premises, they would need access inside to install the ONT at some point.

It comes in underground, just inside the front doorway. I can't see any actual box or point of access, it all seems to be completely underground right into the property.
I would have expected some sort of access somewhere outside the house, but I don't see one.

Yes it will be the first visit, but all documentation seems to suggest it will be fully installed that day, as he'll do the external box etc etc. Odd. Unless when they upgraded the cabinet, they made some sort of assessment of the various properties, so they know the route of installation? Could this be possible?

You should have on the pavement manholes where the Fibre Optic nodes (not sure the correct term) installed along side original telephone cable.

When did mine they tried to install through the telephone duct but this had a blockage to they had to come back and dig and lay a new duct - which was good as mine telephone line shares next doors duct.

My phone line terminates in the middle of the house. Would this be the same place as any FFTP connection will end up or does it have to be attached to an external wall and fed through there?

It's got nothing to do with your phone line. You can have the ONT anywhere you like.
I ran mine myself, they gave me the cable and I ran it under the floorboards and poked it through an air brick where they then connected it to the outside box. Cable is pre-terminated at the ONT end so just gets plugged in.
Mine comes up under the stairs where I have my rack mount cabinet.
I then feed the ONT into my patch panel that goes to the living room where my router is (WiFi wouldn't work with router under the stairs)
Router then goes back to the patch panel and into a switch for the whole house.

Ah right. I think there would be a definite issue then as there are many, many doors to go round. It would be very unsightly. From what I can see the phone point (which is where I'd want to the FTTP to terminate anyway) has underfloor wiring from somewhere, probably the front door.

ah interesting, nearest manhole is about 5 houses away, i wonder if it runs that far underground to my house, if it does i assume they'll have to break into it at some point to access.

They’ll attempt to blow the fire through with compressed air first. I hope the duct isn’t blocked by something as it could put your install back by weeks while they fix it.
