Has anyone else had problems with BT resolving line faults?

i have had a fault on my phone line (noise) since the middle of May, after maybe half a dozen visits, a new line from the pole to the socket (including a new socket) its still not been resolved, and now my broadband speed has now dropped to 0.2 meg (was 5 meg)

apart from this going on for well over a month now i find it really annoying that they can't even keep me updated as to whats going on, i have to keep phoning them to find out.

this week i checked the fault progress on the BT website and they had closed it without telling me and the fault hadnt even been fixed.... when i phoned up they wouldnt re-open that fault and created a new one, maybe they are worried about their standards of service.

if i had the option i would drop BT but we can't get virgin in my village

I too had problems with BT especially when I was using dial-up Internet. I would be disconnected every few minutes. I'd then have to reboot my computer to get connected. I contacted them loads of time and they said that they could come to the house to check the line, but if anything was "wrong" my side of the BT Box they'd charge me something like £55 an hour and 65 minutes represented two hours (2005 prices).

At that time I had a box about the same size as a sardine can screwed to the skirting board and from the can a short wire (6 inches) to the recognisable BT box. They couldn't tell me if these were their boxes or ones placed in the house by a previous occupant.

My argument was that if the “BT Man” came to the house, with “a-dog-on” he could say these boxes were not theirs and I might get charged £110 labour, whereas another “BT Man” might turn up and say that it was old technology and change the boxes free of charge. This went on for months.

In the end I changed to Virgin (NTL at the time) Cable so the BT line is now redundant.

Well just after I’d arranged to change to Virgin, BT put a card through my letter box stating that they had checked the line and that their box on the upper facing boards had failed and they’d replaced it.

They then sent me a letter stating that I was a valued customer who had been with them for many years and would I reconsider my move to Virgin!

Going on well over a month?

Mines been going on for over 4 years, you have some catch up to do ;)

I get line crackling sometimes horrendous, disconnects on my line, disconnects on internet when someone phones and then the next day it will be fine. It can then be fine for months on end. I'm sure moisture someone from the exchange to my house is the problem.

To stop any no fault found costs I have many gigs worth of video footage I've taken showing disconnect and recordings of 17070 line tests recording the crackling.
