BT ordered to block pirate links

Nope its worse than that.

Was reading an article earlier that said this case was a test case, to see if it would be feasable to expand this to other sites.

They won this one, so they will be more confident of winning others.

Newzbin didn't bother to turn up to defend themselves so this was more of a default judgement and sets no real precedent. That said, even if they had been there, chances are they would have lost. They make no bones about what they are there for and actively categorising stuff into sections like Cam, TS and the like in all probability would exempt them from the defence that they are a search engine similar to Google.

Binsearch on the other hand, would be totally different - no categorisation, just a search facility, and not actively promoting itself as anything but search. Now if a judge was to rule against them, then that would be alarming for future censorship of the internet.

Its more insidious than that - it was an injunction against BT, not Newzbins, I don't think that newzbins wouldn't have had the right to defend against this even if they wanted to - Any legal beagles care to confirm/reject that?

I remember reading that Newzbin had at one point said they were going to be there, but then changed their mind, so even if it was an injunction against BT, then Newzbin would have had the chance to argue against it if they had so chosen.

There is really no point, the people who use these sites and newsreaders etc, have the technical knowledge to also buypass the blocks etc. Torrents however, are accessible to all very very easily.
The first rule of newsgroups is, you do not talk about them.

Simple... Don't go with BT, their service is crap anyway :).

I personally love NZBs, grab top gear at 9pm instantly and dont bother with iplayer (althoughI do use it a lot). I pay my TV license, don't see why I have to be restricted to format!

So BT have blocked or did block 1 random website? And this website wasnt even any good anyway or i dout was a very popular one for downloading.

Why dont BT use common sense and block the major well known websites/forums which offer downloadable content? i dont understand it.

Like if i worked for the FBI or the Internet Police Officers whatever they are called i would know Every single website which people use and shut them down, i dont know why they dont do this?

Its about the law in the countries which host these sites. The UK justice system would shut them down but they don't operate from within the Uk so by their law they are not breaking it. Hense asking the transporter of information (BT) to block access.
