BT ordered to block pirate links

Not taking into account what he is there for, he has just done a very good job of regulating the internet. I would say his role was made quite a difference to the internet being regulated, wouldn't you?
Whether he understood the details of what he was doing is irrelevant, he did know he was regulating the internet.

He's regulating the use of the Internet in so far as it's use in the UK has to be compliant with UK law.

As it goes, English judges tend to be experts on English law, so this is probably the right decision, as far as the law goes.

When are people going to wake up and realise they have. Music industry has totally updated and has far more features and access than pirates model.
Same as book industry.

Movie industry and tv industry are behind but they are remodelling.

I wouldn't agree, I'd say that you can get far easier access to a wider range of songs/movies/books/etc through pirating. Either free through torrents, or with more reliable access to everything through usenet for a small fee.

I don't know of any method that legal means can compete with that? Streaming services like spotify are great, but if people actually want the songs, then they'll turn back to pirating.

You don't even need to look at Australia, here we have had people arrested for Tony the tiger porn. The police force and cps are so morally corrupt.

Exactly! It's this kind of pretend moral bull**** that really winds me up. Same goes for the stupid extreme pornography law. It's just the government trying to enforce morals* on us.

* Rather than what is actually illegal.

No what I was saying was that the methods of getting songs are easier via pirating than legal methods. Everything in one place with the ability go get more than just songs if you want, with a wider selection of songs and qualities etc.

Don't think that I'm saying you should pirate them, just that you can.

Hardly all in one place are they (yes, they are on the internet, but so are all the legal means)

There is a site I know of that houses all of my musical needs at the moment if I wish to listen to the song (teaser) before I buy it. It's just people being tight.

Hell, even Amazon offers an MP3 download service which hosts two of my genres, one being not even from this country

... No but Governments think it is there job to 'regulate' the Internet. ...
On what do you base this assertion, in relation to the UK

Can you please explain in what way the Government was involved in the latest dispute between BT & Newzbin

... Funny how you bash the Conservatives in every thread you make yet sound just like one in this thread! ...
Do you really think that it is ONLY Tories who are opposed to theft?

Let's look at music only.

You can download at high quality with no drm, or you can pay for subscription and stream/download. Or you can stream for free and have adverts.
More methods and easier. With music it is money. You can't use other arguments.

In all honestly, no one gives a damn about music anymore. It's so easy to pirate, you don't even have to go on Pirate sites.
What I don't understand is why Iplayer does not yet you download in full quality, we pumped millions of pounds into this and I don't see why they don't let us. Tv shows and films, need a massive overhaul. Infrastructure for both of these are terrible, you pay more money to a legitimate provider like lovefilm and you end up getting worse quality than if you went to usenet. I hate streaming as like most people, you end up watching something in day light hours at peak internet traffic time, if everyone downloaded over the night then this would save a lot of money for ISP's that could be spent somewhere else.

Software is already out there for Usenet, if you have ever used Couch Potato or Sickbeard you would never want to use anything else.

Does iPlayer allow you to 'download' at all? I was under the impression that it only allowed you to 'view' online?

I can quite understand why the BBC wouldn't make it easy to download a digital copy of most of their programs - they do try to make some money from overseas sales you know.

It does but it only allows you to keep it for 7 days which is useless when you have lots of hard drives like me. It does not make foreigners to get hold of our content easier, it is just 10x more convenient for us. Most foreigners will just head the illegal way, if we just imposed an ip filter that we currently have implemented on downloads, then it is impossible to make it easier for foreigners.
