Now I know there are sub forums for broadband, tv and phone etc But this concerns the whole package, so im assuming its more GD otherwise im making 3 threads asking the same thing.

Anyone on the BT Package, im talking full whack fibre, TV and phone - now ive the same on Virgin and im paying 80 notes a month, the only difference being having an extra box on Virgin that I dont use anyhow.

So with BT coming in at nearly 30 quid a month cheaper, im wondering whats the catch?

The main thing so far is that ive to fork out 160 quid for activation and a new aerial, as our tv aerial is borked and i assume this new thing will make freeview worthwhile? (or whatever BT are giving me).

Now I reckon I can haggle that anyway and get some cash off to switch, so anyone else gone Virgin to BT and lived to tell the tale? Or is it full of regrets?

Add cashback and you'll save another £150 ;).

It's worth considering Plusnet also, they're usually cheaper than BT (unless BT have offers on) and have UK support. They're owned by BT and use the same fibre cabs I believe too.

The TV comes through the broadband afaik so no need for aerial

The catch is that the customer service is absolutely ****

No it does not... the normal tv comes through the aerial and the pay per view and services come over the broadband. You still need a freeview capable aerial to use a BT vision box.

Well unless it has changed in the last 3 months since we got ours anyway :p

Thanks, I'm in the same boat as the OP and had just checked TCB the other day but it was only £20 then!

I'm ringing sky tomorrow to cancel, I'm the only one in this house that will suffer with sky Atlantic going but it's going to save nearly £40 per month and it'll be an upgrade from 12mb to 76mb (or so) :D.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people willingly pay £30 and more for Sky/Virgin TV nowadays. I understood it in the analogue days where it was a choice between 5 channels or 500 but with things like Freeview HD being £50 a box and getting all the same stuff minus Sky One and MTV.

Once you've got a decent fibre connection I don't see the point in Sky, live football games are a breeze to find and torrents get you all the Game Of Thrones type stuff.

But some of us only watch the TV programs we pay to watch. You know - we don't like thieving things we're not entitled to watch.
So be amazed - I pay and I watch. I don't feel I'm entitled to watch anything and everything, especially those things I don't pay for.

Freeview getting all the same stuff? You have to be kidding. Sky has a vastly superior channel choice, Movies HD Sports HD various Documentary channels and a bucket load more. On demand is very good as you can pick and choose a wide variety of movies and channels. Your statement there is a pile of poop.

I pay for the privilege of watching a live Football match on my 50' Plasma TV while sat down with a remote I can pause when I get up to put the kettle on, I dont have to browse illegal sites which will no doubt contain malware and have to stream a rubbish copy to a PC monitor.

Sky TV is a viewing experience like no other. You pay for the service which is excellent value for money. You get a HD recording box so you can remote record when out and about if you forget a programme is on, you get a very excellent UI and the ability to watch pause and rewind live TV.

I had Freeview HD when I moved for a month and it was absolute hell. One you get Sky its very hard to go back to Freeview.

Had YouView for 12 months too and what a load of rubbish. When you start getting the bundle packages like Sports and Movies it cost more than Sky!!!!

Who cares! Anyone that has the money to make a program or a film or an album can afford, from all the people that do bother to pay, to not have a few people pay. It's not like HBO gets paid for every single person who watches Game of Thrones when it's on the TV.

Yes, BT support is crap, but generally I've not had much need to call them. Recently, I just emailed the CEO because they ****ed me around so much, and he pushed it forward.

The amount of HD content on the BT platform is severely lacking (although I'm comparing it to Sky rather than Virgin) and no Sky One / Atlantic.

I jumped from Virgin to BT purely as a cost cutting exercise.

Now paying £36 for Infinity broadband, TV (with extra TV channels, HD add-on and Kids Channel add-on). Paid for the line rental up front, so it all works out at approx £44 per month in total. Also received £140 cashback via Quidco and a £60 Sainsburys voucher.

Quite happy with the footie shown on BT Sport and Freeview (e.g. MOTD), so not missing Sky Sports. I wouldn't even bother with buying Sky Movies via BT. I have a Now TV subscription at £9 per month and just watch movies via an on demand basis through the app on the BT You View box.

Definitely down on HD content compared to Virgin but I'm personally happy with that due to cost savings of switching.

Just pray Openreach do a good job of connecting you on day one. Otherwise you'll experience the torture of calling BT.

I had to look into a problem with my mum's friends BT broadband recently. It was blatantly a problem at their end.

She had called them numerous times to be greeted with kindly Indian folk, who she could barely understand and who would just run through the same script parrot fashion.

It took over two weeks before they finally fixed it out in the road / at the exchange.

It's only Sky Sports and Sky F1 that keep me there. Also, maybe I'm missing something but a freeview HD box with recording features etc is not £50 ...

BT customer service is truly the worst I have ever experienced. Five years and about twenty phone calls after my Dad died, the bills were still coming through in his name. My Mam has now switched to TalkTalk, who aren't much better but at least cost significantly less each month.

If you go to BT, I really hope you never have to speak to them.
