So I got an e-mail earlier on today in regards to getting the latest BT Router/Hub for 9.99 which is only for delivery, providing that I renew on another 18-month contract for slightly less because of my years of service or whatever.

As I'm processing all of the changes, it states that my services will be "activated" at a certain date, this Friday for example.

Would I lose access to any of my services? i.e. internet, phone, tv during this time? I don't think I would, but if any of you had made the change, I would like to know, as I just don't have time to have any down time in relation to my services at the moment.

If anyone has any insight, I'd be appreciative.

They may only mention this to cover themselves just in case services are affected. I haven't had this offer but when i renewed my contact after the first 12 months, nothing stopped working for me. I stayed on infinity 1 with the exact same package.

No reason that just extending your contract would have any impact. It's just a generic email that you'd receive whether you're a new or existing customer.

Isn't it too late anyway? If something is going to go wrong you've already committed to it.

I wouldnt risk buying a HH6 now if they paid me £9.99. Probably doing the deal because they have a shed load they cant get rid of due to them being dodgy and also as there are rumours of a new HH coming.

Oh really? I did a little bit of searching around and a lot of people are claiming it to be the best ISP router out there at the moment, I've got the HH5 at the moment, so it would be a big improvement.

Not worth it you think?

Not yet, I've not processed the order as of yet!

You can easily pick-up a new in box HH6 for £50 or less. Accepting an 18 month contract extension for £40 of value is selling yourself cheap.

So the new Smart Hub is not worth the RRP that they're claiming it is? I thought that they'd overshot and oversell it a little bit, but not by that much.

I was referring to auction prices. They give them out like sweets to new customers and many end-up for sale when people aren't going to use them. You could have one in your hands for £50 or less, and it'll work exactly the same as the one BT wants to sell/give you.

If BT offered you a £2/month discount to commit for another 18 months would you accept it? Compare that to what they'll offer a new customer.

Is your existing router causing you any day-to-day problems? If not there's no point changing.

Not day to day issues, but every now and again my router will disconnect and come back on after it's reset itself, sometime it can be 30 seconds to as long as 5 minutes, but it just depends really.
I've phoned them numerous times and apparently there was a problem with an outside line, but this has yet to be proven true.

I don't need a new router, I've just had the HH5 since it's release and it's becoming dated, I would just like something with more power. I don't mind buying, do you have any recommendations for under 100 gbp?

Define 'dated' and 'more power'. The question may seem trite, but it really isn't.

* Lack of AC Wifi Support
* Less Wifi range, I can't get decent reception for N/AC in my bedroom, thus forcing me to use Pline adapters
* Less support for port opening, e.g. I can only open one pc/laptop/console for port forwarding to get 'open' nat, if I try and use that same port or set of ports on another device, it wont work

Originally I was looking at the ASUS RT-66U but I doubt that would improve much for me apart from perhaps more port-forwarding options and a better interface for the back end side of things.

You could probably fix your wireless issues by adding a dedicated access point (or two). Search this forum for UniFi.

5GHz (N or AC) doesn't like going through walls, 2.4GHz is much better at that. Wireless routers do vary, but they all have to work within the same limits.

An open WAN port can only be redirected to one LAN IP (device) at a time. Changing your router isn't going to fix that. I'm not sure how (if) people work around it.

Its fine if the force is with you and the firmware upgrade fixes the issue and/or makes it go faulty.
There are some people who have not had a problem. There are a lot who have had a problem and to resolve it BT sent them a HH5 !

I looked on BT site and had the same offer, £31.49 for Infinity 1 plus Smart Hub for £9.99. The price is the same as I pay now so thought it's a wast of £10 for the router which I don't really want anyway.
