BT Sport to get CL and EL

Lower ticketing pricing would help this though, match day revenue doesnt factor that highly into a clubs turnover these days (PL clubs for sure, not so certain on lower leaue clubs).

Match day revenue is becoming less important to the very biggest clubs that have either or both huge commercial revenue or CL football. The clubs that meet that criteria don't need to worry about not selling out if a match is televised or not.

The clubs that will potentially be hit hardest by ending the 3pm blackout are the ones that don't have European football or huge commercial deals.

Of course it's not just the biggest clubs. Many supporters of lower league clubs would be more likely to stay at home to watch, say, Liverpool Vs Arsenal if it was a 3pm kick off instead of going to see Doncaster play PNE at 3pm. It's not just about the big clubs but the smaller ones too.

Yep, the point I was making is that it's not just the lower league sides. There are plenty of Premier League clubs that will be effected by an end to the 3pm blackout.

I think the 'solution' to lower league interference has already been put forward i.e. simply schedule the EPL games for other days/times. If it is already acceptable to move some matches to 12:45/17:30/Sunday/Monday, why not move more of them? I've never been convinced that putting a game on TV at 12:45/17:30 will save attendances of 3pm matches anyway because the majority of fans won't be able to travel to/from a 3pm game during those timescales anyway. In other words the timing of a televised match on Saturday makes little difference in that regards.... it's not like many people who were going to miss a local 3pm match due to a big match being on TV can suddenly go "oh great, the big match is now finishing at 14:40 so I can get along to my local ground".

The only argument I can really see for retaining Saturday 3pm kickoffs is possibly that it makes travelling easier for away fans and interferes less with traditional meal times for local fans, but they are the minority and in most cases a 12:45 kickoff works just as well.

I hope they sack Michael Owen, the guy must be the worst pundit in the history of football. I cant watch him for more than a minute he is terrible at punditry. David James dont like him either tbh, I like the guys they have for the European football, Raph Honigstein, James and Julien much much more interesting than those guys.

I'm sorry, but nobody is going to take Alan Shearer's worst pundit award. Not now, not in the next decade.

The man has it absolutely sewn up.

This is ridiculous. I appreciate the idea behind breaking up sky's monopoly, to bring prices down, but they aren't competing with each other as they aren't showing the same matches. This just means that customers will be paying twice.

Just caught wind on this thread and i agree above. Now customers have to pay twice making it work out more expensive! Let Sky monopolise the market as it works out cheaper!

Maybe not 'free' but I'd be surprised if it wasn't bundled with other services in some way (so effectively discounted depending on what products you take).
