Ok so this word is being used quiet casually lately..

"hey buddy"

"sure bud"

"wassup buddy"

etc...

It's obvs an American thing that is being used here now, but why?

I've used bud for years pretty sure it's not because I want to be American though

Isn't "bud" quite normal as a term of endearment in parts of this country? Certainly south Derbyshire and most of Staffordshire in my experience.
