"Buddy"

I have used it a lot more since moving to Stoke/Newcastle.

Also I hear Ode said a lot too, sometimes directly at me.

Urban dictionary
ODE

Nigerian term, someone who is slow to process information, or someone who is just plain dum.
Moyosore is an ode.
What is wrong with peter, lamide told me he is an ode.

It's a great way to **** someone up though!

"Hey buddy"

Then just stop, look at them dead serious and in a firm voice just declare

"Im not your buddy"

It's obvs an American thing that is being used here now, but why?

You knida answered your own question there: because it's American. A large part of the younger generation (a rolling concept - this has been going on since the Thirties) likes to steal US expressions because they think they are cool. Hence "douche", "Prom" etc. Get used to it.

Ok so this word is being used quiet casually lately..

"hey buddy"

"sure bud"

"wassup buddy"

etc...

It's obvs an American thing that is being used here now, but why?

Its been used in the UK for decades. Buddy is Canadian/American, but the term Butty upon which it is based is an English/Welsh term, so you could argue that it is simply an evolution of an English word for 'Work-Mate"
