Budget lens for landscapes d7500

There are plenty of great options here.

My personal fav when I shot Nikon was my Tokina 12-24mm F4, as I didnt need f2.8 and it was cheaper but just as sharp. MPB have some for £149.
Also dont write off the more versatile Nikon 16-85mm f3.5-5.6 VR, that was my walk around goto lens. Its very sharp and again MPB have them for less than £200 and has more use than simply landscapes.

Also if budget is super tight then honestly dont be scared to stick the 18-55 kit lens on. Yes they leave a lot to be desired in some areas such as build quality and AFspeed but for general images and non pixels peepers they are capable of some great imaging.

Decisions.. I dont know what to do really.

I love the idea of the 10-24. I can see limited potential in that lens. But maybe I do need something more practical. I currently own the 85mm prime which is perfect for portraits and fine detail. But that 16-85 is excellent value isn’t it and maybe offers a compromise?

Can't you spend a week using the 10-24 before deciding whether to keep or return ? If you're buying used it shouldn't matter as long as it's looked after.

West Coast of Scotland always great for Landscapes. Wester Ross Kyle of Lochalsh Skye, Ullapool Tarbert Oban Loch Lomond. I've done them all. I can't think of the nearest city to put the 10-24 through its paces apart from Glasgow near to the West though? I've used the 11-16 around and inside Inveraray Castle but it was closed last November.

I guess i could? To be honest I didn't think about that. Like you said there is a lot to photograph round here, and I'm only a short walk from a stunning sandy beach overlooking Arran. But between the 10-24 and the Prime I've got, I'm not sure that would be suitable for Berlin, which is why I think the 16-85 or something similar might be better. Plus its half the price.

Okay guys I’ve had a little think. I lack a general purpose lens. I’ve got my iPhone but that’s as good as it gets. After reading the advice on here it’s a toss up between going wide (10-24) or grabbing myself something more versatile.

The 10-24 wide angle is also currently out of stock and I don’t know when they’ll get more.

if my budget is £300 what’s the best general purpose lens I could get with the money? The 16-85 does tempt me, especially for £170.

I had a Nikon 12-24mm f/4 when I had my D7000 and it was great, build quality is better than the newer Nikon 10-24 and I found the image quailty to be great. I previously had a sigma 10-20 f3.5 and the image quality wasn't great in comparison.

If you're after something all purpose that will also do landscape, you want something in the region of 16/18-50/55mm and fixed at 2.8. They're like a mix of everything saving you the bother of needing to swap out lenses and spend lots of cash on dedicated options. Sigma, Tamron and I think Nikon do one. I'd much rather a faster lens than one with an extra 30mm on top of something capable of 55mm ish for all purpose personally.
