Fellas,

I have settled on the following - any absent components are otherwise accounted for (gfx, hdd, OS etc), with the exception of a PSU on which I would appreciate some advice:

Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4 (I want the 4 for the firewire)
Zalman CNPS10X
Intel Core i7 860 (maybe the i5 750 if I'm feeling tight)
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

I am planning on using w7 primarily doing lightroom, maybe hackintoshing for aperture, and of course a little FM2010.

First of all, can we agree that the above seem like reasonable matches for each other?

Second, can I drop in another 4gig kit like the above with no consequences at a later date?

Third and finally, if I am running four(!) 7200rpm HDDs, a radeon 4870, and a minimal stock voltage overclock, what kind of PSU should I be looking at?

Thank you all for your attentions :)

That looks about right so far. Adding in more RAM may screw with your overclock, but otherwise yes.

Look at a high quality (Corsair or BeQuiet!) ~650W PSU I recommend. Could get away with less, but 650 gives you a bit of breathing room.

yeh a i'd say go for at least a 650W quality psu aswell because the future proofing u get out of it is worth it for that little bit extra. Dont really have any problems with the system tho.

Haven't heard many reviews of your HSF myself, this however, is getting a excellent write ups here on the forums;

Alpenföhn Nordwand CPU
Also, for your consideration;
Corsair H50
The later I have personally, and can DEFINITELY recommend.

Corsair HX 750W ATX
Should suit you nicely and also leave some headroom should you wish to include another card or HDD further down the line.

Ooooh H50 I like it - thank you all :) Definitely no skimping on the PSU then - I'm erring on the side of the corsair, and like the HX for the modularity - 750 gives lots of wiggle room in the future. Finally a little clarity :)

My only remaining question would be how wise the choice of RAM is - I notice the CAS8 for a little more money, or even going faster than PC3-12800 - your thoughts, gentlemen?

Now you're just being silly! :p

To be honest, you won't notice a great deal in upgrading to CAS8 unless you are a serious OC, subtle clocks won't be affected by this and also the cost involved for the tighter timings doesn't warrent it, in my book.

This seems to be a pretty good deal in a similar price range, however it's out of stock. Not sure when you plan on ordering so thought I would throw this into the bargin;

Corsair Dominator XMS3 4GB

Difference is minimal, however I like the look of the Dominator's, but my case is on display 24/7.

Thank you, n1blo :) This is as I had suspected - I suppose I will be ordering as soon as I man up and push the button ;)
