Hello.
I am putting together a new system and would like your opinions on the components I chose.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1055T
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-890FX-UD5
RAM: Corsair XMS3(2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz C7
GFX: 2x Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 Vapor-X
Optical Drive: LG 10x Blu-Ray Rom/16x DVD-RW Sata
HDD: WD Caviar Black 1TB 6Gb/s 64MB Cache
CPU Cooler : Noctua NH-U12P SE2 or Noctua NH-D14 Dual Radiator
Case: Antec 902
PSU: Zalman ZM750-HP

I am having some concern as to if the new Noctua cooler will fit into the case and will not disturb any of the nearby components on the motherboard.

Also the choice of 2x5770 is due to the fact that I have another 5770 in my i7 build back in the UK and plan on getting a 5870 to put in there so i'll get another 5770 for here and CF them.

Any suggestions and recommendations will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Well, I chose the UD5 due to the excellent overclocking capabilities it has.
About the PSU, I have the 1000W Zalman at my i7 build and I am impressed by the silence of it, so I'd prefer Zalman for this build as well.

Err yes mainly gaming, some video encoding and a little use of CAD.

Well, if you are paying that much for a AM3 motherboard, you'd probably be better off getting a i7 920 build as it cost similar and deliver better frame rate than Phenom II. No reason to go AMD unless you can save money (mainly from motherboard).

fair enough, buy it then, good list of parts for your uses.

strange that, swear he says he already has one.

I do have an i7 build back in the UK.
Thing is the i7 is more expensive to build than the AMD one. The CPU (930) is 80 more than this one, the corresponding mobo for this one in the LGA1156 socket with with Sata3 and USB3 support is 60 more and the RAM...
Also I believe that going 6cores will be more future proof despite the lower performance for now. And since this is a build for my home, I'd like it as future proof as possible.

As Marine-RX179 says, I think for your uses you would be best served with an i7 system. If you went for an i7 920 D0 CPU (~£190), this motherboard and this RAM it will cost about the same as the above system - but perform better at stock settings and overclock wonderfully too.

Your graphics choice of existing 5770 + new 5770 sounds great.

This is almost my setup. 920 D0, Asus P6t Deluxe and XMS3 (tho the C7 ones).
Thing is with this build I get as extra the newer Sata 6GB/s, USB3.0 and even though the performance is lower at this moment, I believe it should be more future proof?

Just grab this motherboard:

and a i7 920 (should be around £180~£190)
It might cost about £15~£25 more than the AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1055T and the Gigabyte GA-890FX-UD5, but the extra performane for gaming will well worth it.

Yes but as i mentioned, at home I build a PC every 5-6 years, so I need it to last till then.
Phenom II X6 1055T is not on the same level of performance as i7 920 if both are overclocked to 4.0GHz. For tasks/applications that support the use of 6 cores and use them fully, the Phenom II X6 1055T will offer same level of performance as a the i7 920, however anything that uses less than 6 cores, it will be slower than the i7 920 as it has less processing power per core (they need 6 cores to deliver what i7 920 can deliver with just 4 cores).

Also architecture wise, i7 920 is superior to the Phenom II and deliver better frame rate (Phenom II's K10 architecture is old hat that was tweaked from the anicient K6 architecture that date back to 2003, which later tweaked to become K8, which again tweaked and later became the K10).

theres nothing in it when at 4ghz each, been through this rubbish with you before.

@M1k3H AMD rumoured to keep the AM3 socket for the upcoming Bulldozer chips, there was a AMD roadmap at Anandtech a while back.

stulid I have that in mind its one of the reasons I am leaning towards the AMD build.
The AMD might have less processing power per core but in applications that utilize all 6 it is superior than the 920. I realize that right now, this is not the case as almost nothing supports 6cores but I am positive that in the future they will and my choice will be rewarded.

Hey M1k3H,

man you got expensive taste! :p . . . I just trimmed a little here and there . . . . Can you tell me how you see your orginal spec is worth an extra £186.80 . . . i.e where is the money going and what Real-World benefit does it offer you? :)
