building quad core, 8800 gtx sli system need advice.

sorry if it has already been asked but what will you be mainly using the rig for? also i'd advise against the fatal1ty sound card for the time being as there currently aren't many games that make use of it, the xfi xtreme music does just as good a job!
* i can't help but feel you are living beyond your needs with that spec!

Well, i would consider myself a hardcore gamer and i want everything to run as fast as it can at high rez on full details with any game i throw at it, i was going to get the x6800 but seeing as the quad can be had for just a little higher i figured id get that instead and oc it a little so it performse as good/better than the x6800 in current games and then im set for when developers start utilizing the technology, several games will be taking advantage of it next year which i intend to play with full detail.

also im the kinda guy that wants/needs the best at the time :p

crt dude............one question.......

Do you own a bank? Or a munny tree?

I wish I could afford a rig that good.....can I worship it as my god when its finished?

I spent £2000 on a top of the range system earlier this year, runs everything on the market perfectly at high resolutions and max details, however I then got an identicle system for £400 6 months later, If you take my avice, I would suggest you build a cheaper PC 5 times rather than just go all out on one that will depreciate very quickly and become out of date technology, its just not worth it

Processor:[/B] qx6700 (for sure) oem version, no difference from retail except no fan right?

EDIT2: what dvd drive?

Well, the OEM CPU only has 1yr warranty whereas the retail has 3yrs. Also, you don't get any retail packaging or heatsink. Might affect future resale value by a small amount.

As for the DVD drive, go for any NEC or Pioneer.

Yea it dont look the like enermax has 4 x pcie power, your going to need the http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-010-TG tagan instead mate.

Ah, Thanks tagan it is then :)

So anyway i am leaning toward a lian0li case, v2000 or g70, anyone of them could keep this kind of system cool and have plenty of room for things like tuniq tower?

Quoted for truth, im currently experimenting with the idea of living 6 months behind the times, despite feirce tempation im holding off the constant urge to spend my money on a sli 8800 GTX machine.

Although my brother doesn't agree, he used to get all my old parts.

if you are going to overclock then why not get a c2d 6600 save your money and have this running at high clock speeds and will decimate any games out and for a long time to come especially if you are running 8800gtx's! what resolution are you going to be gaming at?

You are worried about a few quid when buying two 8800 GTX cards? lol

Why are you going for the E6700? Go for a lessor CPU and clock it? Your buying 6400 memory anyway. If you don't over clock it you'll be wasting the memorys bandwidth. so the question you raise about 8500 memory is no. TBH 6400 memory is quite adequate for any decent OC. This will run 400Mhz.

I hope you have a decent widescreen LCD monitor like the Dell Ultrasharp 3007WFP 30" Widescreen? Anything else and all that power is just a waste tbh..

I would personally go for the Tagan 900 / 1100w PSU instead of enermax, but each to their own - good luck with the build and hope everything works 1st time

I missed what kind of monitor you are using ......
