building quad core, 8800 gtx sli system need advice.

Are you entirely sure you want to spend this much money a PC that will be superceded in a very short time?

You say you are a gamer, which means a quad core CPU is completely wasted. A lot of games aren't even making use of dual core!

You also want 2 8800GTXs in SLi... what for? You planning on playing on a video wall? Unless you have an absolutely HUGE monitor - such as a Dell 30" - then 2 8800s is entirely wasted. I suspect even if you did have a Dell 30" it would be wasted.

I understand the urge to have the best, but in the PC hardware world it is absolutely the best way to waste money. Would it not be far, far better to go for an E6600 and just one 8800GTX? Then, in about a year when games come out that will actually need an E6600 and 8800GTX you can consider upgrading? It would be far cheaper adding a second 8800 at a later date. Or even better... buy the latest DX10 card which will probably be better.

Not gonna stop you spending all that money, it is yours to do with as you please, just offering a few reasons why you should probably think a little more conservatively.

Whatever you decide, I hope you are happy with your new rig.

surely if you have that amount of money to blow you can get a hot rig as sirius suggested that will smoke everything around for a long time, and you can use the money saved to spend on the mrs ;)
