bulb exploding?

There I am in my kitchen mixing brown sauce into a cottage pie when there was a loud smash, like a glass being dropped on the floor, and then glass hitting the back of my neck, the bulb in the spot light assortment thing exploded and all the glass and bulb sharpnel was flung towards me.

Pretty scary, i've never seen a bulb actually explode, and it wasn't as if i only turned it on, it was on for around 5 minutes already. I have a great night, then i nearly lose control of my car and a bulb decides to attack me, damn karma.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Sounds serious. If in the unfortunate event glass managed to get in your eye and resulted in blindness, would anybody be liable?

The glass showered the side of my face, and grazed/slightly cut my chest. It went EVERYWHERE, and I would think if I was looking straight at it (no idea why i'd stare at a bulb) it could have been bad.

was it a high pressure halogen bulb? if so, then these are known to go bang, and you don't want to be around when they do.

sensible answer

you should check the fuses/circuit breakers in the house

im thinking they should blow or trip before a bulb does

Those halogen spotlights are always exploding, cheap manufacturing if you ask me, can't count how many times mine blow

I did that too, but for some silly reason I thought the pellet would leave a hole and bounce back out of the bulb. I was wrong and the thing shattered over me as I was lying right underneath it. Probably up there with one of the stupidest things I've done. But it was still cool.

I had a bulb explode on me a few months ago, just after the electrics had been replaced, the engineer came back and assured me the circuits were fine, just happened to be a particularly bad spike due to a dodgy dimmer switch.

I had a standard lightbulb explode on me in the bathroom one night...had had a bath, got out and was bent over drying my feet and suddenly the bulb directly overhead exploded. The room was plunged into darkness, I was butt naked, bent over, with masses of red hot glass covering my back, and was just so freaked out I couldn't move. It hurt a lot. :eek:

i've seen 3 regular bulbs explode, now i dont see it as being out of the ordinary :/

Maybe it was his off day, he might have been too busy killing loads of other people in more interesting ways
