Guys, Help me out here!

Like a total fool i had a go on a mates 125CC scooter the other night, i dont have a CBT or Insurance for a scooter. I somehow managed to ride straight into a parked car as the throttle was not sprung loaded like every other bike i have ever ridden, i got the end of the avenue, brakes applied... was turning right but soon as i let off the brake the throttle was still cranked up so there was very little turning and i plowed into the side of a car, damaged the side skirt and a little scratch on the door. as it happens the owner is yet to find out as they are away, most of the ave have seen it now as it was caught on my CCTV but they are all telling me to not own up and keep quiet, i am an honest guy and if i didnt own up it would eat away at me etc etc.

Now the problem i have is as mentioned, no CBT or Insurance, how will this affect my Car license etc?

I know i am in the wrong and i am a fool for being on the road etc but what is done is done, i can now only deal with the consequences.

I was thinking of 4 outcomes, the owner could turn round and say "Forget about it" (its 2003 C3), she can agree to settle by way of cash payment, she can agree to settle mutually by way of i pay to get her car repaired or she may want to go through insurance... which is where my bottom twitches, if this is the case then ill either have to say it was done in my car OR deal with the legal lashings.

What can i expect. what would you do?

That's going to cost a fair bit to fix properly, assuming it's not just the outer sill cover that's taken a dunt (looks hard enough to have dented the actual sill).

Probably best saying you hit it in your car, but haven't / don't want to claim your own insurance.

Probably best not have a thread on the internet about it either

i did think twice about putting a thread online about it in all honesty but i am not trying to commit fraud etc etc, i just need some other points of view.

They have seen it as my friend on the street wanted to see what happend on the CCTV so i played it back for him.
They didnt believe that the bike was still reving its nuts off on the ground, when i picked it up it set off again until i turned it off.

I live in a quiet area, we all get on and know each other.

I *THINK* they might notice that mate.
Looks like a whole new skirty looking panel tbh and it looks like it continues around the rear arch too.

Surely isn't this driving without a license/insurance?
saying it was done in your car... Fraud, why should your insurance CO have to cough up for this? Thanks for pushing everyone elses insurance up ;)

what I would be doing is getting quotes ASAP for a new skirt and paint for the car from a few local places, maybe even see if you can spot a skirt new or from a breaker in decent nick and the correct colour.

when the owner gets back just inform them fully of what happenned, apologise and then give them a list of the options you would like to take with the costing for each.

As for the CCTV.... it's your CCTV? I doubt you are under any legal obligation so hold onto the recordings for x amount of time.

6 point for no insurance, 3 for not driving with in accordance with your license. happy days! insurance for you car will hike up like mad. i would either 1 leave it or 2 tell the owner and pray that you can pay for the repairs other wise you in the poo

Thanks guys,

Like i said i am an honest guy and would much rather tell her the truth and deal with it.

I have a price for a new skirt, its £45 BUT as its metal they tell me they have to cut a section out then i would need to get a repair shop to cut hers off, weld and spray.

I suppose the ball will be in her court.

You'll also need to see how that panel turns and forms part of the door shut, that might be part of the repair panel, which creates more work again.

tbf it looks like one panel running the length of the car and around the rear arch.
had a quick google around and saw a few parts that might be suitable but your'e looking at £100+, without the reg cant get exact part/price. (please dont post the reg on here).

I'd also be phoning a citroen dealer and getting a price and (if you can get it out of them) a part number.

Telling the truth and dealing with it good on ya man, but if they kick up a stink then you're in a fair bit trouble :( Maybe ask to buy the car? The points and the "no license" and I'd think yer insurance on anything is gonna skyrocket tbh

That is pretty significant damage. The sill is part of the monocoque, ie it's structural. It will need significant repairs to the sill itself, or alternatively the damaged sill cutting off and a new one welding on.

So it's not just the outer panel/skin?
If it's structural then yeah I'd expect in excess of the parts I was looking at.
Just looking at the stuff available for sale and 2003 C3's looks like 1.5 - 3.5 depending on spec. I'm assuming its one of the lower spec ones, as it doesnt even have alloys.

Just reading the OP again... how have "most of the ave" seen your CCTV? :/

Nice to see a bit of honesty.

We've all done stupid things - sometimes you get away with them, sometime you don't.

Hope it doesn't cost you too much.
