Bump question

Sills are composed (generally) of an inner and an outer, sometimes with an additional strengthener inside.

All are structural - that's why you fail the MOT test for having rust holes in the outer sill.

As far as I'm aware the C3 doesn't have any kind of plastic sill trim cover or side skirt - so the damage you are looking at is to the metal sill itself and therefore structural.

Usually insurers will only pay a % of what the car is worth for repairs, take it at face value the car's worth isn't going to be far over £1k. I don't think that would get repaired for £700.

I think you may have written that off. Your best bet is owning up to that and offering to buy her a new car....

the down side is some people will then come back to you when / if the replacement car has issues.

keep us posted on what happens.

Dunno about buying her a new car but certainly buying the car for a fair price to get it repaired at your leisure and then either selling or using would be an option.

Completely depends on the owner tbh at the end of the day if they refuse any/all options and insist on going thru insurance theres nothing you can do :(

their is no insurance though!

She would have to go thru her own insurance, pay her excess then take OP thru court I think to claim it back
Unless of course it a strange turn of events the owner has no insurance either! :p

or is not fully comp / covered for non insurance accidents.
i know a family member had some one uninsured who hit them and claimed it through court took 3 years though. and got payed in installments and im sure its till going 5 years on!

I'd probably tell her I'd hit it in my car, but was willing to pay for the damage without going through insurance. That way you might get away with paying a few hundred, or if it goes through your car insurance you'll just have to pay your excess.

Yes, I know it might technically be fraud, so obviously I wouldn't persuade you to do it. But I know that's what I'd probably do if I found myself in your situation.

Ah that sounds fun :/

And if his insurance want to inspect the vehicles?
How does he explain that damage in that low down an area with no surrounding damage from a (presumably) undamaged car?

Thats a slippery slope and I can't see anything positive coming out of it.

They won't, there is no reason for them to expend the cost doing so.

Anyway the damage to the op's car was so minor he went and got a new bumper and just put it on himself.

Going through your car insurance is actually better for the third party too - if she doesn't want you to either buy her a replacement / give a cash settlement

You could say you crashed into it on a push bike (which even if you were seen might be feasible) and you dont need insurance for those?

She will probably be very grateful if you offer some money to her as I guess she would need to go to court otherwise?

Not too sure on details but may be a way out.

That sort of damage from a pushbike? He's stoved the side of the car in, nobody is going to buy that story!

They won't inspect it, that's far too minor. Even if they did, they're not going to mount a forensic investigation: all the OP needs to do it say he already fixed his car. Its certainly a hell of a lot less risky than any other option.

Oh dear...

How on earth did you crash your bicycle into it fast enough to do that kind of damage? ;)

In seriousness though, your hope that they don't care about that sort of damage is a bit of a pipe dream. My car is older and probably tattier and there is no way I'd let you get away with that.

don't you mean you were transporting some breeze blocks on a flat trolley and it managed to get away from you? ;) (think that might actually be believable as it would coincide with the low down damage on the sill and scrapes on the door? :p also woudl be carrying momentum so would have the force to do the damage)

+1 for the skateboard though.... LOL

commend you for wanting to own up though :) hopefully won't bite ya. live and learn really, we all make stupid mistakes from time to time.
