Bumper Removal Problem - Real Rusty Bolt

if you have a welder then turn it to its highest setting get a small size 16 rod and burn it off.

Voltage is too high to weld so the steel will burn away instead and leave the chrome bumper intact.

I know this works as i have had to do it myself for the same purpose!

Chrome bumper on a Rover 200

The best bet is drill a hole in the middle and use an Ez-out or if its small enough just drill it out completely.

Granted but if you had a welder handy and were reasonably compatant it is just 5 seconds pish posh bang your done no matter what the bumper is made off.

Though I should add you should put the battery off just in case there is a shortage with the car electronics. :)

if its recessesed behind the number plate, either use a chisel to see if you can start it(by cutting into the edge and tapping) or cut the plastice around the bolt so that you can slide the bumper off and then when the bolt is removed. you can refit a new one with a larger washer.

Cut a slot in the bolt head with a hacksaw and then thrash it with an impact driver (after having soaked it with WD40).

If that fails grind the sucker off, if that doesnt work then just torch the car, that'll teach it ;)

Welding a nut onto the remain of the bolt head nearly always works as the heat loosens it off, but obviously you need a welder...

Failing that, carefully drill it out and retap the thread or use a helicoil if the threads get damaged.

I think I will just bend the bumper about like I did before when changing the headlight.

I will give it a go though with some brute force, I dont have a welder.

Do you have to unbolt it? I think you are unbolting the bumper from the crash bar. Is it possible to remove the entire bumper with crash bar?

I've never took off a mk3 front bumper but this is the case with the mk2
