Business Information Technology

Sounds like a mickey mouse degree but if that's what you want.

I'm a purebred Comp Sci boy and wouldn't look back.

Some people don't have the points available for a proper degree though, so its not like they got a choice.

I should in theory have 340 points by the end of next year,

now are these kinds of degrees any good? I am merely doing a degree in this field as a just in case kinda thing, my dad has a business which in theory I should take over when I get a degree, if I do need to get a job at some point it will probbably be managing computer networks etc for businesses rather than programming or similar, is this an ideal degree for that?

I wouldn't say any Degree is a Micky Mouse Degree.

I was going to do Computer Science but I thought the Course description was off putting so I opted against it.

BIT seemed a good Course, so I went for it.

BIT is a HND, then after the 2 Years, you do a further 2 Years to make it into a Degree.

FunkyT sorry to keep going on and on lol

Was there any...

JavaScript
C++
HTML
Visual Basic

Involved?

A yes or no would be good for a reply to them 4 :)

[TW]Fox - The Course I would want to change to is Information and Communications Technology, but I think that starts next year at my Uni, I have E-Mailed them to see if ICT is running this Year or not.

kitten_caboodle - Did you finish after the HND or did you do the further 2 Years and make it into a Degree?

Also what sort of IT things were covered?
Was there any Programming? If so which Language?
Did you use Excel or anything? If yes/no, what other Software did you use?

If you dont mind answering :)
Would be happy to know this stuff and maybe a bit more!
Thank you so much :)

Sorry for the delay - been busy this weekend :D

No, I just took the HNC - my employers were paying and I'd already been to Uni when I did the HNC... another guy on my course did though, he just graduated \o/

We split into programming and IT in the 2nd year - I went into the IT section, and we did modules on:

Hardware
Networking
RMDB - Access, then moving onto SQL
Visual Basic
Web Design - HTML, FrontPage then Dreamweaver
The Software LifeCycle
Business - mostly concentrated on CRM packages

Can't remember much more, and it's changed a lot now - seems business and IT are more heavily weighted towards business than they were.

Im doing Information Technology in Organisations at Southampton University. To be honest, its like computer science with business instead of the hardcore programming, although we have done some of that already, which is what i was hoping i could miss out on.

Its been quite good so far. A lot is about IT project management with some web design, problem solving, systems and introduction to business thrown in.

Infact, you just inspired me to check out my modules for the second year again.

Collaborative Working
Contemporary Programming Methods
Data Communication Networks
Information Systems and Contexts
Professional & Legal Issues
Second Integrative Project A
Second Integrative Project
Small Business Mgmnt
Systems Analysis & Design

It's worth bearing in mind that there may be different streams to choose from after year 1.

With the course I undertook there was a management and technical stream with certain core modules (some of which were technical).

Has anyone ever done Business Information Technology at University level?

If so, was it enjoyable and worth studying?

Is there any Programming involved?
If so, was it difficult or just the basics?

Thanks, Steve

It will depend on your viewpoint. I found I enjoyed the technical side more and there wasn't enough programming, others felt the opposite. This course has a little of everything. If you're not interested in doing any programming then maybe this isn't the course for you.

I am interested in doing some Programming :)

I have just done some HTML and JavaScript at A Level and I really enjoyed it...When it worked lol but then when you tweak it and it works, thats a nice feeling :)

Did you enrol dude?

Im in my 3rd year at Kent doing Business IT Bsc.

If you're really into programming and complex computer maths stuff (read nerdz ;) ) its not a course to go for but gives a good background in business along with enough IT to allow you to work in a lot of areas....think more IT management than programmer.

So far on the computing side i've done a bit of programming in HTML, XHTML, CSS, Java and SQL along with Information Systems and GUI design. Other good stuff too but nothing as hardcore as a straight computer science degree.

On the business side theres economics, financial accounts, management, all the background u'd need to run a business.

Deffo not any 'less' of a degree than others :p
