Hey all,

Not sure if a mod can turn this into a poll, but wondering how many of you would chance buying a phone from ebay?

Thanks

I've bought plenty phones from bay, but I probably wouldn't chance it now, purely because it's rarely worth it.

what phone/value are you thinking of?

Did one once a long time ago (2003-2004?) - was a one off as I needed the exact model to retrieve the sim data :( due to philips using some non-standard stuff. Fortunatly was just for temp use as a couple of months later it was barred - not sure the exact story but was along the lines of guy bought it for his gf, she didn't really use it so he took it back when they split up and when she eventually realised had it blocked as stolen to spite him or atleast that was his story.

I wouldn't normally as theres way too high a risk of it being stolen or barred for some other reason, even with checking the phone on certain sites to see if its in contract, etc.

Bought a couple, one new and one second hand.
Although the 2nd hand phone was from a sell with 100% feedback the phone wasn't great.
I bought a samsung s2 which was new and sealed, actually died on me 9 months later. Sent it back to samsung for a repair, they were ok with it being from an ebay seller as long as they're a vat registered business.

I've bought two through ebay.

Both weirdly samsungs when I needed a new phone with a lowish budget and high hopes.
One was a samsung Jet (according to google) think it cost £120
The other a black s3, brand new, at £180 (think it was)

Since people still got upset at my lack of 24/7 connectivity, but stopped buying me phones to *make* me connect, I have bought myself:

Qtek 9100
Orange SPV M5000 (x2)
Motorola Flipout
HTC Desire Z

All from the Bay, all pristine condition, all under £40 and all still working perfectly.

Take your time considering the phone and, where possible, get one with the box and all accessories included.

Bought two phones from ebay. One got barred after 4 months or so but the other one is still working and has been for the past 2.5 years.

Bought one once that was described as Sim locked, thought ok i unlock it, but after trying and putting in a few sim cards it wouldnt work, used the T-mobile imei check that was around, i found out it was reported lost stolen, so had fun with Ebay and the seller but eventually got my monies back.

The others i have bought have been fine, also sold a few too with no issues.

I've sold several on there but never bought one. I've only had one problem where a buyer said the item didn't match the description because of a dent in the casing. It transpired that he browsed the listing using eBay Mobile which doesn't show the item condition for some reason. If you look using a desktop browser you'll see a big yellow box where you can add all the details which I had done. The buyer withdrew his case afterwards.

The lesson? NEVER USE EBAY MOBILE TO BID FOR ITEMS.
