Buying a Ps3

I was in the same situation as you, didnt want to use VGA on my computer! Sucks tbh! Ended up just sodding it in the end and getting a HDMI-DVI converter! Sweet sharp 1080p goodness though! Appartantly the new 2408s have HDMI and dual DVI but suffer from input lag, which is the only reason i havent sold my 2407 for one yet!

Yep same situation and ended up doing the same thing. In this day and age you'd be very very hard pushed to notice any difference between VGA and DVI. I don't. So all turned out good in the end.

Because I didn't mention the ports, but The Darkness deserves to be mentioned.
I mentioned the main PS3 games people rave about, but said he won't mind the inferior ports - so he could get any games he wanted.

Also, looking at the list, there are 2 lesser ports; The Darkness and Virtua Fighter 5.

I bought a PS3 the other week, Iv downloaded all the demos and wernt impressed by many to be honest. the only 2 games I have bought are.

Uncharted - Finished this last night, really enjoyed it, fanatasic fun game. great graphics and decent plot, the voice acting is also really well done.

GT5 - sorry but im finding this so dull, (but then i do prefer PGR4 over Forza 2), technically it may be very good, but im just not finding the racing enjoyable, each race is more of a chore, very much like forza 2 IMO.
 
Am i going mad but I was playing games on the component cable that came with the PS3 and it was blurry as hell, switched to HDMI and everything crisped up and now looks fantastic! so all this resolution HD stuff is irrelevant surely.
 
The Playstation 3 doesn't come with a Component cable, it comes up with a Composite cable.

Component = HD
Composite = SD

So no, the HD stuff isn't irrelevant, you were just confused/misinformed. Don't worry, common mistake.

There was no need to try make him feel bad about his purchase with the 'inferior ports' comment tbh.

I never tried to make him feel bad, I asked if he had an Xbox360, he said no, I then explained why I mentioned it. If it was factually wrong then correct me.

The ports are (for the vast majority) inferior, but as he won't have a comparison then they will be great.
 
It wasn't the facts, it was the manner in which you said it. You could have said 'Ah then you have all the Multi Format games to get through too'
But you said 'Oh you wont mind inferior ports then' and proceed to list games which a couple actually had the PS3 as the lead platform.
Just thought it was a poor choice of words to someone who only has one console.
 
I could have said that, but I didn't. I said what I said with the best of intentions. It's not like I said "You should have bought a Wii/Xbox360 instead" or "Playstation 3 is utter rubbish".

I got a PS3 in the end :) Came with GT5 and a second controller (so £330 something) and I got Assasin's Creed (whatever it's called) for £0 and a blu ray film for £0. Not bad I think!

I'm currently running it on 720p over component as 1080i hurt my eyes??? (may have just been tiredness). Going to stay like this (i.e. not hdmi) until I get a tv :-)
 
Everything Nokkon's said is actually correct but as usual, the oversensitive and embarassing PS3 fanatics come out of the woodwork.

Not really, poor port days are long gone and the 1 pants port mentioned (The Darkness) is far from unplayable! So why mention 360s and inferior ports in a PS3 thread enless theres some sweaty, talk dirty to me, ive been a badboy, 360 mclovin about?

The inferior ports comment needn't have been mentioned but is it really worth getting worked up about?
