Buying an S2000

they need more power to suit the lovely looks, SC one to fully enjoy it

I plan to SC mine in ~2 years when:

1 - I have far more experience with the car
2 - Warranty expires :D

You don't need a supercharger to enjoy it though, flying up through the gears never gets old. Awesome awesome gearbox

hmm I'd disagree, it gets very boring constantly having to change down to find the ellusive torque (omg he said it, bring the VTEC defenders!!!)

SC conv's are the best of both worlds, gorgeous car with an awesome engine :)

Seconding this, the gearbox really is glorious.

Some points to note:
- 2002-on cars had a glass rear screen, pre-2002 it was plastic and its not uncommon for them to get foggy.

- Insurance is higher for non-GT regardless of the fact that you turn a non-GT into a GT simply by fitting the hardtop (there is literally no other difference and there is no specific "GT" model as far as V5C is concerned - or at least there wasn't when I owned mine). I had a 2002 "non-GT" which I insured as a GT because I had the hardtop - saved quite a few hundred on insurance.

- Imo the stock rear tyres on the car will kill you in the wet. Being Bridgestones they are awesome in the dry but like those plastic wheels you get on toy cars in the wet. Fortunately low-speed RWD powerslides are both easy to initiate and easy to control. :D I used to love scaring the living daylights out of people on the way into work doing a powerslide around a mini-roundabout. Don't accelerate on a wet corner with the stock rears unless you're bored of life.

- Heat soak is a big problem (imo) on S2000s. I don't know if the 2004+ models fixed this but on the older cars the performance was improved significantly by fitting a proper CAI.

You'd be tearing your hair out if you drove mine then:p

I like having to work the car hard to make it shift. It's kinda rewarding getting it right, knowing if you fluff the gear change you're going to be off-cam in the next gear, leaving you down on power.

Surely it's the opposite to this thats boring, the big torquey engines that you just plant your right foot and waft up to 100mph without even realising?

I'm not defending VTEC but if I wanted to go quickly in my 1.6 Fiesta I had to be up around 6000rpm to get peak power, it's not really that different in the S, it suits my driving style.

I like being able to just potter about in the lower rev range too without having to worry about torque throwing me off the road :p

I quite enjoy the power delivery of my zed (no effort to hit whatever speed you want), but have caught the VTEC bug after being in my friends EP3. It just feels and sounds fast. I liked the look of Mike's S2000 at the last meet and have always loved the S2000, but insurance at my age is a killer and the zed won me over by a mile.

I can't help but thinking that I need to experience VTEC in an S2000, so might have to bug Mike for a passenger ride at the next meet.

Please explain?!

They're just not quick enough for me, no other real explanation to offer. I like to have sub 5 seconds to 60 and enough torque to get me to the top end of the gearbox without the need of a very steep slope. VTEC in my experience struggles in the upper gears...not that I ever drive over 60mph obviously

What do you drive at the moment?

S2000 is about the same speed in my experience as a Civic Type-R. It's quick enough to be faster than most things you come across, but it does suffer mildly from looking faster than it really is.

Still, at least its not an MX5 or a bloaty 350Z :p

;)

Since when has the CTR been able to sub 14 second 1/4? :p

The S2000 absolutely flies once in the higher gears, where it can just sit on the power band.

Massively faster than CTRs in my experience (although I think mines a 'good one' and is modified slightly)

911 C4S and VX220 Turbo in the garage. The S2000 would have been a perfect DD for me out here but I decided to go for something a bit more original in the VX. Lovely cars don't get me wrong, just not shouty enough for my liking!
