I'm curious because this will be the first time buying from a trader at their home instead of usually the forecourts.

So my question is, should I ask for relevent trader ID or something?
How would I now that this trader has the legal right to sell the car I'm going to be paying for in cash.

Last week I nearly ended up being fooled into buying a Cat C. This is a minefield so would appreciate any helpful info.

thanks:)

Im sure there was an episode of Wheeler Dealers where Mike bought a car from a dealer outside his house??? Anyway Im sure they would need ID so aks for it.

I think this is dodgy. Why are they selling outside of forecourt? Doesn't it mean they can use the line "I know what I'm talking about" but due to it being a private sale they have none of the same legal obligations? Check up on it

Numerous ads that are private, turns out to be actually dealers selling from their home when asked. I'm also wary about this and have been trying to find more info online. Not a lot of info I can find so seeing if any members here have the experience and advice.

Heres the ad

I'm keen on the car, but the dealer at home thing bothers me a bit.

Personally having no knowledge of the Jazz market.

It looks a little cheap.

As the mileage isn't mentioned I guess it has something silly like 150k+ on it.

Have you done a HPI check? The new V5 document does say if a car has previously been written off on it iirc. These are red.

I remember when this kinda thing was on rogue traders. Ad says ad type private, so it will be sold as seen. Probably had the mileage adjusted too.

I thought that a dealer had to declare that he was a trader in any advert they put out. I would wonder why it's not in a Honda dealership if it was any good as the Jazz is a very popular car

I'd try to find out the dealer who first sold and serviced the car, they may have some history on the car.

mmmmmm as mentioned that seems quite a bit cheaper than I would expect it to be. If it seems to good to be true it normally is. Be careful with this one!

Just walk away.

Trader is selling it from home so he can send it on with a known fault and you won't have a hope in hell of getting anything back from him.

For private ads, phone the number and say you're calling about 'the car'. If they say 'which car?' be suspicious.

Nothing wrong with a trader selling from their own (not rented) home as long as they're open about it and say so in the ad. With a genuine trader selling from home, you'll have the same rights as if you bought from a dealer.

This. And to make a huge profit.

Happened to me last year when i was on the way back from Sheffield, Saw a Ad on trader decided to view it. When i got there found out that the guy was a Trader even though he had it as a Private seller.
Found out that the car needed repairing on a few things. Wanted too much for it. Walked off.

Don't even think about buying cars from them...

Update on this.
Went to see the car anyways as was curious to see the condition. Car was pretty much perfect (no visual damage) and drives normal. No pics as it started raining.

Comes with all 3 original keys and documents but no service history.

BUT (3 things)
there is a little drill hole of about 6mm in the VIN chassis plate
Trader will only accept cash, NOT even accepted if was to pay cash in his bank acc and seems to be a part rented home

Guess I'm pulling away from this deal. Sad though I did like it a lot
:o
