Bye Bye Game!

I can't say I will miss the shop much, they've long since driven me away by jumping on me as soon as I enter the shop asking if I need help.

I can't help remembering Electronics Boutique just after I bought by first PC though. Shelf after shelf of big box PC games. Coming from the Amiga I hadn't heard of half the games, and it was all very new and exciting. I spent ages in there with enough cash for two games after I'd bought the PC, came out with X-Wing and Ishar.

Hope no-one here has lost a job because of it though.

If they are going into administration does that mean we are likely to see huge sales on lots of stuff while stocks last, either online or in stores? It would be nice to get my hands on a 360 or a ps3 to use as a media center if the prices are right.

Probably not as the staff will no doubt take the unsold stock in lieu of last wages which are looking unlikely to be paid soon!

Actually they've already started their firesale, about 2 weeks ago.
More on preowned stuff, but was still loads on new items. Doesn't seem as much now. Probably sold quite a lot.
They could have stuff instore that is not shown on the website as well.

Miss the days of being able to browse the vast PC sections, downloads weren't as common due to broadband being new and expensive to most so Game stocked like, everything. Now you go in and you get just a handfull.

Was in the local store today, a couple of people buying stuff to get rid of their points. Are they still taking pre orders though, 'cos it wouldn't surprise me, and some people might get stung.

looks like this weekend is it, and they'll be a new company on monday with gamestation gone and huge redundancies. Creditors are furious as it's already apparent this "new" venture will fail like the last one, and this administration will basically screw investors

thats my biggest fears come true then, what a shame gamestation will vanish...

Well looks like its only HMV and cex in Darlington now.. Last time I went in HMV I could not find the pc games with out help. When one of the staff did show me, the 3 small shelves in the back of the shop, I did think hmm I will go to GAME lol not anymore.

Im glad they have ended up this way, sorry for the staff but the company just went downhill, I used to buy nearly every single one of my games from them online or instore I used to get good prices for games than most other shops eg hmv charging 45 or 50 quid for a £40 game then game started it. also charging £1 or 3 less if you buy pre owned some even worked out more expensive pre owned. another shop like this is blockbuster, terrible trade in prices and awful prices on new games. ever since i went to pc online I aint bought a console game since.

i went to game on monday to buy a new xbox 360 controller for my pc, i thought i might get one on the cheap since i knew they would have some kind of sale on, but they was looking 40 quid for a wireless controller o.O and 20 quid for a second hand one lol can get them brand new for 22 quid online.

Sorry if this has been answered,

Will game/gamestations website still operate after the store closures? On the game website theres no indication they're closing, it says theres a sale on which would indicate they are but they're taking diablo 3 pre orders as though they'll be able to send them out after they've closed...it comes out in May.

I was wondering, would this be going against trade descriptions if the website is also closing as obviously they won't be able to send anyone their diablo 3 preorders?

I don't think anyone really knows tbh.

I wouldn't pre-order anything from them though, would probably take the money and run unless you did a charge back.

Part of the same Game Group PLC :)

damn

so that leave us well me anyway with no high street options for used games :(

i liked taking the kids into game/gamestation to choose a couple of DS gmes and pick up a bargain for myself.
