Today I sold the Rangie. I have mixed feelings about it. In one sense I'm happy as the mrs will now get a car she will actually drive. On the other hand I'm sad as I liked it a lot.

Unfortunately, after we bought it, the mrs decided that she hated automatics and refused to drive it. No reason was given and my questioning just resulted in "I can't drive it. I want a manual". So, it had to go.

We have bought...... wait for it........a 2008 Honda CR-V 2.0 EX.

Well, it's got nav and leather. It'll be reliable too I'm sure.
Most will say that we should have bought the diesel version but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

Oh well, I'll try to enjoy my generic mid-sized SUV.
Being a dad requires many sacrifices.

Range Rover is a far better choice! Can't believe someone would want a Manual over an Auto for daily driving, and esp in such a comfy car like a Range Rover.

The CRV is a nice car though. Shouldn't have any issues with it, is it the 2.4 Petrol engine?

Text book case of "womans logic" :(. Shame it had to go but hope the CRV is half decent.

Don't get why no diesel engine. It's a CRV for goodness sake, not a Ferrari.

If you have to drive around in a honda CRV then you might as we'll save some money. Guessing the petrol variant is n/a.

Yeah, n/a.
To be honest, the diesel isn't that different on economy in the CR-V. Especially considering the car will only do 10k per year and a lot of that will be short journeys where a diesel will soot up and not get up to temperature.

Puzzled me too... seems to be a lot of unwarrented hate towards diesels in this forum.

*edit* though I guess in Rilots case its justified if its very short journeys with low annual mileage

Maybe you're thinking of a different car as they never did have that ( we had an early one) - though the central armrest is a single flimsy thing maybe that's what you're thinking of.

Tbh the one we had in the family was fine, the newer models are much less grey inside which can only be a good thing. It done what it needed to do with minimal fuss. Don't think it ever cracked 25mpg and was slow as a slow thing but should be a non issue with the mileage /driver

Worst reason for selling a Rangie ever.. lol. Oh well, I know how excited you were when you got it, so too bad. Hope she enjoys the Honda :D

I couldnt see my missus making the same trade, and even though she is not that keen on Driving, she loved our Range Rover more than anything else I have had.

Because although the 2 litre petrol engine will offer almost nothing in the way of performance, it will at least shut up in the process of not offering any performance and not sit at the lights clattering away sending vibrations through the cabin. Petrol engines are just simply more pleasant, so if you can get away without having one, it's a good opportunity to grab.

Suddenly... massive diesel fan..

Sorry to hear that you had to ditch the Rangie, at least it wasn't the S2000!

We looked at getting a CRV earlier this year. We tried the 2.0 Petrol, 2.0 CDTi and 2.0 D-TEC.

The 2.0 Petrol was fine, it was ok, but there was just no performance, revs didn't equal going faster.

The 2.0 CDTi was alright. Good power, but very, very clattery. No surge of power though.

The 2.0 D-TEC was by far the best. Once up to temperature, it wasn't notably louder than the petrol in honesty. A lot less vibration than the CDTi.

The problem is, you can get a 2.0 EX Petrol like Rilot has bought for probably sub 10k. The 2.0 EX D-TEC is closer to 15k for one with comparable condition and miles.

I thought all things considered, they actually drove really nicely, and the cabin is a really quite acceptable place to be. Loads of seating options, a split level boot, lovely big split sunroof, and very, very comfortable seats.

Why the need for a diesel if you don't need or want one? The amount of money you'll save on those sort of mileage is negligible and at least the petrol will probably end up being cheaper to maintain.

Diesels have their place, i.e. if you're doing 10s of thousands of miles a year, and often cruising on the motorway - but other than that, what's the point?

Missus has a 57 plate CRV 2.0 Auto EX. We had to get the petrol as she can only drive auto and diesel auto was not available with this year (and budget). The spec of the thing is amazing for the money.

Full leather, heated / electric seats, sat nav, steering xenons, auto wipers, brake assist, collision warning, adaptive cruise, parking camera, dual climate, pan sunroof etc etc

It's a very lazy drive, but perfect for all the kids... She likes it that's all that matters

We paid 12.7k i think for 45k odd miles full honda dealer history, not a mark on it. The EX models command more... I didn't shop around for it, but it was on doorstep so just went for it.
