For anyone whose waiting for this game (like me) it looks like its going to be a few years before the game comes out. Looks like it might be canned all together.

Does make you wonder whats gone on thats caused it to be delayed so much. It looked like the game was pretty much in alpha teting yet somethings caused it to be put back 2 years ?!?

I think the article's right and they're re-writing it from the ground up so it will run on PS3/360
 
They may have done a Valve, and showed segments of Spore that was supposed to be totally dynamic but was actually scripted. When they got to the nitty-gritty, the developers eventually realized it just isn't going to be possible to achieve what they said they've been doing all along to the media. Hence the delays.

It's happened with Half Life 2, I'm sure you all remember E3 2004 (or was it 2003?), as well as the beta leak that showed Valve to be total and complete liars.

Only thing I can think of is that they are maybe having issues with the online side of things, as that is really the only bit which hasn't been shown yet.
 
i think the information is being read wrong, fiscal years for EA ends/begins in spring time (ends march time IIRC) we are currently in fiscal year 2008 which ends in march 2008 and so fiscal year 2009 starts next spring.

Soo if we take gamespots article for truth and it slips from late 2008 fiscal year to early 2009 fiscal year the game will be out around spring/late spring next year.
 
I knew as soon as EA entered it all and started saying that the money is in MMO's I knew and said they'd ditch spore for an MMO version :(

absolutely gutting, this was my one last hope for an original pc game :(

lol, exactly what I said a few weeks ago. Quite happy with my XBOX360 although I will always use a PC too. Hopefully this game will be at least released on one of them... :)
 
It has to be rubbish, EA are using into secure there finances and thus will not scrap it, otherwise the banks are going to be asking for money.
The game also has to be nearly ready and will right isn't someone just to scrap the project, It might be delayed along time, like most modern games, but it'll be out. There far to far through development just to scrap it.
 
As someone else said, the demo's displayed could have been scripted or just shown the part of the game which is working. There could be a long way to getting their vision correct and Will won't let the game be released until he's OK with it. Its his name/reputation at stake.
