Just out of interest why do you think that the Army recruiter found you a suitable candidate for the Army, and have you enlisted as anything other than plain infantry (I assume to aim for the Coldstream Guards you must first be infantry).

The Guards are the same as any other infantry Regiment with no special requiements, they do get more ceramonial duties than the rest of us - depends on your point of view if thats good or bad.
