*******C.A.R.S - Community Assisted Race Sim*********

thought i'd let everyone know that CARS may not be accepting new members soon, so if you want to sign up, you better do it now

they are in negotiations with a big investor who will be providing the rest of the money. Ian and Andy have already confirmed that this investor is not EA, that the CARS team will still be calling the shots and that things wont change for people who have already signed up. they have said that if this doesnt happen they will not accept the investment

haha if its someone like codemasters :D by who it is you will see what the intentions are of the game and what future it has. good luck with the venture and will have a chuckle with a firend about this as we were only just disccusing this the other week.

Would this mean they'd be closing out access to the alpha/beta altogether?

kd

no, Ian has confirmed that all current members will continue as normal. he is insisting on this, so if this isnt in the contract he wont sign it

heres some quotes from Ian:

Hi all,

First of all, I'm sorry i can't go into details on specifics here as it's all extremely NDA but it's about 95% certain at this point that SMS will be changing company structure in the sense that we will become part of something bigger and better. This is generally 'a very good thing' and will most likely make it such that we will have all funding in place for pCARs and thus will most likely close off investment for members in the very near future.

The terms and conditions of pCARs will remain unchanged for everyone and you'll get all of the agreed benefits.

What is does mean though is that if you are considering upgrading your tool pack/membership level in the future it might be good to do this within the next 2-3 weeks.

None of the above is 100% certain but as I say, it's about 95%

Again, sorry I can't go into specifics but it's good for us, good for you and good for the project.

Cheers!

Let's just hope that this doesn't change the development of the game.
Nothing will change here.

Does this include this project only or do you become part "of sth. bigger and better" for an undefined time? Jesus Christ, don't let EA have a hand in here
Bigger than just one project and not EA.

he also said somewhere that the game will still aim to be a proper racing sim, so nothing should change there :)
i cant find the quote in amongst the giant thread that the announcement has created

EA/Activision/other crap software publisher are buying them out, and we can kiss goodbye to any serious contribution from the community, and hello DLC after DLC, and full price Sequel with new coloured indicators only £49.99!!

I hope not! Hopefully just closing the tool packs to anyone new...

Any ETA on when this may happen guys? I really can't upgrade until next month :(

Yeah, community will still be involved if the deal goes through (95% likely to at the moment). Ian Bell insists that there's no deal without the community involvement. No changes to anything you've signed up to. No EA on the horizon either.

Happening in 2 to 3 weeks if the deal is signed with the new investor. Looks very promising as SMS still call the shots. They're still aiming high on the sim side of things. Some concerns on the forum but they clearly didn't read IB's message properly.

It's amazing to even get a hint of the change in advance to allow us to throw a few more quid in for an increased return. You could be cynical and say they're squeezing us for more money but there is a fair bit of trust in SMS and their project so far. I exclude the couple of dissenting voices here obviously. :p

Looks like lots of upgrades are going through already. I'd just mentioned here the other day about a reason to upgrade to Full but didn't expect this news. Seems silly not to speculate now when an investor sees the very clear potential of pCARS across all platforms and is willing to allow SMS to carry on as they are. Time will tell but I'm in!

i dont think so. Ian has said that the pCARS guys will be calling the shots, so i expect therewill be some good development

theres already plans for a good amount of DLC, and i honestly dont see the bad thing about having DLC. i;d rather have some DLC than have none atall because it keeps the game going and the customers coming

Maybe this will finally allow them to buy licences for street cars (ie 911s, bmws, nismos, lambos, ferris etc)? I can see how bigger publisher will open more doors for greater content overall. So yeah, good news!:)

PS. I'm hoping that this bigger publisher wont make them abandon pursuit of advanced physics modelling though. When there are many cars, it is tempting to create some relatively primitive scripted physics model where you would only change like 10 factors to get variables for all cars. And for Big blockbuster Racer with awesome graphics it is much more tempting to have lots of cars with so-so physics than few with advanced physics...

new team member+ build is out today in honour of reaching 2,000,000 euros funding

the two country road tracks and suzuka are in this build, along with the lighting editor*

*i'm 99% sure this is in, but i'm happy to be proved wrong

Had my junior membership since back when it was first released but haven't tried a new build in ages. Played the newest junior one yesterday and was very impressed with progress so far. Still have a lot of issues getting the feeling right though and at the moment with my Thrustmaster F430 getting the FF right seems pretty much impossible.

Quite tempted to sign up and have a bash at this, my only concern is my rather ageing computer might not be up to it. :S

Its a 2008 Macpro dual 2.8quad-core Xeon with 10gb Ram and a ATI 5770 1gb gfx card.. ill be using my Fanatec TurboS wheel and pedals. I don't really want to spend £40 on membership if it runs badly, although if it worth it I'm quite tempted to build myself a dedicated Windows system using more up-to-date components.

Anyone got a recommended spec to get the best out of this game and a rough price that it would cost.

I guess if Shift 2 runs well then so will this.
