C&C Red Alert 3 Announced

Listen to all you moaners! Jesus christ, give the game a chance! No wonder PC games dont sell, so many people set in their old ways that all new games must be the same as the old ones in order to be good :mad:

not a tad sick of GDI vs. nod, USA vs. soviets, thats all C&C games have ever been with a unique team thrown in, like yuri and the scrin, but they never change anything, i know im gonna get the whole 'if it aint broke, dont fix it' crap throw at me, but EA need to do something new with RA3, make it bigger, stop giving us the same crappy unit selection and exact same tactical options with those units as the previous game, in a nutshell red alert is SO tactically weak compared to supreme commander, people say supreme commander is boring but its a PROPER wargame, not small scale like C&C, heck C&C has weak air units, even weaker sea units, it practically only takes place on solid ground. needs to evolve or die IMO

No C&C games must stay the same, it wouldn't be c&c if it'd be on a big scale like supcom, also since when are air units weak? In RA2 they're tough and can cause massive damage ( eg a lot of black hawks or kirovs).
As can they in C&C3 (scrin planetary assault carriers, plus that nod heli with the laser upgrade.

So basically you want supreme commander then? Maybe you should go play that? How can you evolve a game like C&C without it becoming a completely new game and thus may as well have a new name?

Why does everyone want C&C to turn into a game like Supreme Commander? Supreme commander is living proof that having the biggest scale, the most impressive units and the most realistic war simulation can still be boring if the game isn't fun.

I want to pick the game up and blow stuff up in five minutes. I don't want a war simulation.

I want this game to just be an updated tweaked better version of RA2. The formula works, its good fun. The game does not need a huge change in direction.

I'd hate to see it turn into something like Supreme Commander, and this is coming from a supcom addict, who can't get into any other RTS now.
The only thing I'd like to see in RA3 from Supreme Commander would be the camera controls of being able to zoom out and see the whole battlefield, so much nicer than a minimap.

a 3D engine for an RTS is fine as long as you can't move the camera. I'd rather just have a plain isometric 2D engine like RA2 had than having to arse about with camera angles all the time. It's unnecessary and distracts from the game imo.

heres a thought: if you dont like arsing around with camera angles all the time, find one you like then set it and leave it at that?

admittedly all i do is zoom out as far as i can with the default view, but the option to move the camera about *if* i need to, is nice.

From those SS's it does look like Generals, but in fairness, I thought Generals was a great game.

Im really just obsessed with the C&C series, mainly RA2:YR, I still play it now.

I can't get into SupCom, COH, Starcraft, Warhammer etc etc, It just seems to complicated for me.

I like simple units, simple buildings, like RA2/YR it was very quick to understand what each structure and unit did, rather than have a few units with 100 upgrades available, it made it harder to understand for the less patient gamer.

I guess we have to accept it's 3D, but I don't see that being a problem, I just *hope* it has the following;

1) Single unit control of SINGLE infantry (not groups! If I want to group I'll ctrl+1 etc)
2) TAUNTS - Must have those! Customisable + Standard ones would be good
3) Retain old sound fx - unit sounds, etc
4) Somehow still involve Yuri's units, we want Magnetron's and MM's in 3D! :D
5) Have Naval AND Air units in the game.

The principle is there, if the programmers spent a few days playing RA2/YR and seeing how it works, and why it is so addictive, then we will be onto a winner with RA3.

I for one, will be pre-ordering this game the second the chance becomes available!

Will look forward to having sea battles in the C&C world once again ^^

They should keep the same formula of build and then place, but they do need a new angle on the game, maybe a new method of technology unlock? Maybe a new resource for tech with a limited supply, as C&C tactics typically revolve around rushing early with your superior grunt units before they get their superior higher tech units.

This talk of C&C is leading me to reinstall RA2 ;D

+1
Supcom allowing you to zoom however you like spoilt us, I dont think any game without that could ever now be a 10/10.
Which is why I dont play C&C3 so much anymore :( Even though I really enjoy the gameplay.

Totally agree. Played Sup Com, loved it.

Then I tried to play C&C3 and it felt like somebody was constantly pushing my face against the screen. Just felt so limited by the amount of the screen I could view. Sup Com utterly ruined C&C for me. :(

"beta" my arse, it will be a closed multiplayer demo and the final game will get a few tweaks due to feedback. This "beta" tag gets tossed onto everything these days to make people think their feedback will heavily influence the final product and make it seem like theyre participating in something really important.

Play Dawn of War and then C&C's camera will feel like the perfect middleground.

This is good news. I liked C&C3 but dont think it was better than RA2. Not sure what was so good about RA1 and 2 but they had something that made them work so well that seemed to be missing in C&C3.

C&C3 felt very detatched from the original C&C game.

I think thats because the original CnC had a modern day feel, like Red Alert 1. Then with Tiberian Sun they went all sci-fi mental with it, and CnC3 kicked it up a notch. Probably one of the reasons i prefer the Red Alerts tbh, never really that big on sci-fi. Anyhoo, looking forward big style to Red Alert 3 :D Did anyone hear.....its gonna have a co-op campaign ? SWEET !
